“Disappointed”

For a Jack N course this did not live up to my expectations.
The only hole on the course that stood out was the 18th - all the others were what one would see on a local muni.

“Playing Coyote Creek”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 September 2012

Hi gang,
Played here Sept 2012 on a beautiful day. Regular rates for Tournament course are $90 and $75 for the Valley course. Seniors (ahem) get to play either course for $60, cool !! So I opted to play the more challenging and longer Tournament course. It has a slope of 134 at 6400 yds...from the whites...everything you could ask for in challenges. The first hole is flat at 384 yds in length, a good wake-up hole. Then you cross under Hwy 101 for holes 2 - 8. These holes have an array of elevation changes and doglegs that will challenge the less-than-straight or shorter hitter off the tee I don't possess many long drives anymore, but they're usually in the fairway. There are back-to-back par 5's of 530 yds that rise over 100 feet in elevation and 487 yds that has a rollercoaster-like fairway to keep you occupied. Course knowledge is very helpful and ask for local advise if you can. I got paired up with a couple long hitters that tended to explore the reaches of the peripherals and environmental that are so prevalent here. Meanwhile this old man was somewhere in the middle and only lost one ball all day. Bunkers are generally large and DEEP !!!! Found 2 of those, too. After hole #8 you venture back under the freeway to find what I call a "meadow" layout of the remaining holes. Wind becomes a factor here so gear up. Hole #14 is a simple little par 3 of 156 yds from the whites. My 7 iron ballooned in the wind which dropped me 20 yds short. A lob wedge shot bounced off the stick and stopped 15 feet away. While my long-hitting compadres were shortening the tall grass, I drained my putt. Oh baby !! The fun hole was #17 which played 496 yds into the wind with the last 139 yds over water to a semi-island green. With the pin tucked 10 paces from the front edge, I hit the top of the sloped embankment and rolled back down within a foot of the water. Trusty lob wedge to 2 ft away and carded a par while Lewis and Clark were discovering the down side of testerone with a golf club in your hand. Had a fun time with my new friends, entertaining to see some great drives. Staff was friendly, starter on #1 was very helpful. Didn't see a Marshall all day (Friday) and pace of play was pretty good most of the time. This course is not for the shy. We played in less than 5 hrs. I played here years ago when the course was called Riverside and I was told the old layout doesn't exist anymore. I'm looking forward to playing the Valley Course next time. $55 is on the higher side but it is a Jack Nicklaus design after all. Facilities are spread out,it's a short drive from the pro shop to the range, putting green and chipping area. Definitely give this tract a visit, obviously well laid out. Not much water to worry about, but those pesky environmental areas can cost you a ball or two.
Hit 'em straight,
Rich

“Nice course”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 September 2012

Nice greens and challanging greens. Playing on a nice course is good if your playing isn't always up to par. Nice place for lunch also.
