“Great Comfortable Stay & Steps Away From AirPort SJC!!!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 November 2013

La Quinta Inn & Suites San Jose Airport was a great comfortable stay! The rooms are very colorful, and the decor is very modern and unique! I live the blue and purple mix and the silver couch very trendy! The King bed was nice and comfortable especially the pillows! I stayed for two nights and enjoyed the free continental breakfast! The bathroom is very small but the sink outside worked great for getting ready! The staff was very friendly and the location is great because it's literally steps away from the airport and they even have a complimentary shuttle too! I would definitely recommend and stay here again!

Accomodations: Overall quite modern and well maintained.
Very comfortable bed and pillow. Both were on the firmer side and very nice for the spine.
Excellent hand holdable shower head.
Unit had microwave and mini fridge. Wifi and parking were included.
Amenities included surprises like shoe buffing cloth.
The morning buffet started early at 6:00 AM and was one of the most complete breakfasts I have seen (Omlettes/scrambled eggs, 2 types of juices, 2 types of milk, 3 cereals, bagels, bananas, apples, waffle makers, toaster, coffee, decaf etc. And best of all when you sit down to eat your breakfast there are convenient electricity outlets to charge your cellphone before you head off.

Customer service:
Front desk always super responsive and go out of the way to help.
They supplied us with plates and coffee mug so we could microwave our drink and take out leftovers.

Nice touches:
Shoe buffing cloth, electricity outlets everywhere.

Negatives:
The restaurant inside the hotel is not open after 10PM.
The hotel is not walkable distance to any restaurant or shopping areas. Its also very close to the highway, so if you want to take a stroll in evening, all you have is a Burger King's parking lot next to the gas station.

Great place to stay when flying from San Jose with their park and fly program. Rooms have been recently redecorated. Cocktail lounge on site. There's a Burger King adjacent to the parking lot, but no other place to eat within easy walking distance.

Dear Dean S,

We appreciate you spending time to let us know about your recent experience with our hotel. During your next stay, please do not hesitate to ask one of our Front Desk Service Agents for assistance in finding places to eat, we are always more than happy to help. There is a great chinese restaurant just across the street from us that is just a short walk away and would be a better. We hope to see you soon, thank you for choosing La Quinta Inns & Suites - San Jose Airport.

I stayed in this hotel for a week so got to know it... The rooms have all the amenities you would expect, apart from a kettle - so not great if you want tea! I didn't mind the noise from the airport - as long as you know the hotel is by the airport, it shouldn't come as a surprise. There was some noise from the air con unit and the fridge, and a bit from the corridor, so if you really need peace and quiet I'd stay elsewhere. The swimming pool area is nice, but could do with a bit more privacy as it is somewhat overlooked by the Burger King carpark. The breakfast had plenty of options - and the best one in my view was the waffle maker! The staff are friendly and very helpful - they were really quick at responding to queries and gave good recommendations. A practical hotel but no frills.

Room Tip: The rooms with a door onto the corridor (rather than to outside) are quieter

This hotel has been newly refurbished so a lot of the decor is new and modern. Lobby and breakfast area was nicely done. Room had a surprisingly modern decor that was nice and fresh. Unfortunately the building itself is very old and has a weird musty smell in the hallways (luckily no smell in the room!). The bathroom had been redone as well, but you could tell it was a cheap redo as the materials were lower quality. But everything was clean, which is what mattered.
The TV had so many channels - more than any of the other hotels I'd stayed at in the area.
The worst part of the stay was the paper-thin walls, I kept waking up all night as other guests walked through the halls, talking or just bumping against the railings.
Staff was friendly and helpful.
Location is convenient to SJC (if you have a car) but not within walking distance to restaurants/food places.
For the price I paid I'd stick to the newly renovated Fairfield Inn a mile down the street, closer to the airport.

Plus: Lots of TV channels to choose from, friendly and helpful staff.
Minus: Paper-thin walls, not within walking distance to food options.

Hotels in San Jose are expensive. La Quintas are usually one of the less expensive, but reasonable options in most towns.

The LQ San Jose airport may not be the ideal location for some, but it's a stand-out with up-scale rooms more befitting a Marriott.

I lived in this hotel for a month, so think I have a pretty good feel for the experience there. I've never stayed in as nice an LQ room. Some parts of this property, look pretty standard for any LQ (hallways, pool, workout room). But you'll be positively shocked when you see your room.

The rooms have been totally redone with new tile floors from the entryway into the bathroom. Instead of a standard white plastic tub enclosure, you'll have a walk-in shower stall with sliding glass, one-piece stall floor and a sliding shower wand assembly on the wall. Oh, yes, and a very convenient stall corner wire shelf for your toiletries. The sinks are those elegant top-mounted basin types. And there's convenient shelving above the fridge for storing some snacks or a couple bottles.

Air conditioning units are new or newer, and I thought were reasonably quiet.

Room furnishings are high-tech style, reflecting the Silicon Valley location. Beds are good and the windows even have California-style shutters.

The desk features a multi-function connection center for power and connecting to the TV. Cleanliness is grade-A, as is the water pressure and consistent hot water availability.

From my perspective, location is ideal in several ways. First, the hotel sits right at the intersection of the 101 and the 87, so getting on your way in the morning is a snap. There's a light at the corner by the hotel, so you're never stuck trying to get out.

The other advantage of this hotel is that if your business is in San Jose or Santa Clara, there's much less traffic going that way south in the morning (and vice-versa going home in the evening).

On the negative side, however, you are close to the highway and at the north end of the airport runway. The hotel is well insulated and none of the highway or airport noise bothered me, and I am a light sleeper. Try to stay at the office end of the complex to get away from the highway noise.

The airport is less of a problem than you might think, even though the planes take off almost over the hotel. The first flights of the day roll at 6:30. So if you're here for business, mornings are fine. And San Jose isn't a very busy airport. In the evenings, there aren't very many takeoffs or landings, and the last one in seems to be around 11:00.

Aside from the Burger King next door, food options aren't readily apparent. But if you turn right out of the hotel on Trimble, there is a strip of quick-service restaurants about a mile down that primarily cater to the local business lunchtime crowd. That's also the closest Starbucks.

Also, if you drive straight north on the street coming out of the hotel (De la Cruz), in a mile and a half or so, you'll cross Montague Highway, where to your right, there's a Safeway, a couple other quick-serve, and one nicer option (Piatti italian) restaurant choices.

Breakfast at this LQ is all the usual fare, but the eating area is much bigger and better appointed than the norm. The dining area also serves as a bar and lounge in the evenings, and they do serve alcohol! So finding a seat for breakfast, often a challenge at smaller LQs, is never a problem here.

The hotel does have a free shuttle to and from the airport. And it is close. It'll take you 10 minutes to get to the airport from here, unless it's the evening rush, when you should give it 15 minutes. And if you have a car, there's ample parking, especially on the back side of the hotel, which everybody seems to miss.

You'll note that this LQ is a little more expensive than the usual LQ, but that's to be expected in this town. San Jose hotels just cost more. To my experienced eye, this is a great value and a great place to stay if business or family bring you to San Jose.

Room Tip: Stay towards the office end of the property for less noise.
