The level of service I recieved at this location is exactly what I've come to expect at Fairmont Hotels. It was professional, friendly and attentive. It's a beautiful downtown hotel located within walking distance to many restaurants, coffee shops and shopping. My suite was very spacious and modern. Beautiful views, comfortable bed and very quiet floor. The bathroom was large with behind the mirror tv and a separate tub and shower. The only thing that seemed out of place was the somewhat dated shower stall. The soap holder in the shower was barely large enough for the soap and certainly not big enough to hold soap, shampoo & conditioner. The Express Cafe they set up in the lobby for morning coffee was nice, even though there are many close places to grab a cup of coffee it was nice to just go to the lobby.

My family stayed at this property over the holiday. My family recieved wonderful service and our rooms were spacious. The hotel is pretty busy during the holiday because an ice skating rink is set up adjacent to it as well as nearby Christmas in the park. The hotel lobby/bar area becomes really busy with people staying in the hotel as well as those enjoying nearby events.
The food and drinks are good. We expected the prices to be moderate. If you do not valet, parking can be tricky.
We would definitely stay at this location again.

A great hotel to stay at for business. Conveniently situated close to businesses in Silicon Valley as well as good restaurants. Good service, friendly staff and an elegant bar / dining area. The gym needs an update and is a bit tucked away with no view.

The Fairmont is everything a high-end hotel should be: nice place, good amenities, and great service without any attitude. We came all the way from Oakland (about an hour away) for a New Year's week 1-night getaway with our four-year-old, and couldn't have been happier with the Fairmont.

We got a great deal, probably because it was midweek, off-season. I found something online for room and breakfast, and then called to see if there was a better offer; they threw in parking, which, at $26/day (half-price for hybrids!), was a nice perk.

The room was great: spacious, updated, clean. They even brought us a refrigerator so we could keep our own stuff cold, since we had more than would fit in the mini-bar. We stayed in the main building (not the tower), at the end of the hall, which offered a nice view of the wintertime skating rink, to our daughter's great delight (but avoid the rooms over the skating rink if you will be bothered by strains of its music, which goes until I think 10 p.m., just during the holidays).

The location made all the difference since we were visiting the Tech Museum, which is across the street. The Art Museum is next door, and a 2-mile wonderful riverside path and the Children's Discovery Museum (great for the preschool set) are only a couple blocks more.

The service put everything over the top. Everyone we encountered was very nice, very helpful, and not at all snooty. I asked the concierge for recommendations for dinner and a walk, and both were spot-on: a Japanese restaurant that was not at all expensive and very convenient; and a walk that took me through a couple interesting nearby parts of the city, though not necessarily completely gentrified.

Our daughter wanted to swim our last afternoon, so they gave us an extra hour on our already requested late checkout time. (Pool is very nice but a bit chilly in the winter; fine for laps on a not-too-cold day.) The gym, by the way, was great; lots of equipment, much of it quite recent, and even an area and equipment for stretching (yoga mats, balls, etc.).

Breakfast, which was included with our room, was a generous buffet, with lots of options, many of them quite healthy, and plenty of refreshing of the food. When they didn't have pancakes on the buffet, even though a sign on one of the trays listed them, they offered to make some for my daughter. They arrived at the table beautifully decked out in berries, and with no extra charge.

In summary, look for a good deal and plan a family trip to the Fairmont, and all that downtown San Jose offers. You won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: We liked our upper-floor end-of-hall room overlooking the plaza next to the art museum for its 2 sid...

This place is superb. I can't say it enough. We stay here twice a year and it gets better every time. It is in a great location as well. It's older but elegant and the staff definitely made you feel welcomed. Very quiet and relaxing!

The best thing about this Fairmont is its location, which is right into the main square, where most of the tourist attractions are.

The lobby is very large and the Xmas decoration was beautiful. Our suite was in the Tower, which is actually the building across the pedestrian street. It is a little awkward to have to leave the hotel to get to your room, but once you get used to it, it's fine. The décor on the Tower was certainly newer and more luxurious than in the main building.

The suite was very spacious, with a great view to the square, comfortable sofas and good shower. Room service was on time, courteous, and the food was tasty. The issue is that they charge $5 delivery plus a mandatory 22% gratuity. This seems excessive, and it was higher than other similar properties we stayed, where it varied from 15% to 18%.
Another costly item is parking at $26 per night, which seemed way too much for a smaller sized city. We used another parking close by for a smaller fee.

The only real problem we had was with the restaurants. We called a week ahead to ask if reservations were necessary for our arrival night, since we would be arriving late and wanted to guarantee a nice dinner. We were told that it wasn't necessary at all and they might even close early that evening. During check-in we were then told that both restaurants were fully booked that night and wouldn't be able to have dinner there. The receptionist tried to help, but at the end her only "excuse" was that the restaurants were third-party, not part of the hotel itself.
We ended up having room service, but that was very disappointing to us.

The outdoor pool area looked nice, but we didn't use it for lack of time.

If ever in the area again, we would come back to this Fairmont.

Keep in mind that it's an old, elegant hotel. The rooms are nicely decorated, no smells or stains. The linen is up to date and the mattresses new-ish. The staff were very outgoing. We received a great deal just after Xmas. Parking is $26 but this is standard in cities. The hotel was very quiet. The workout room was fantastic. All of the equipment was state-of-art. The decktop pool was very nice.
The location was perfect for Santana Row, the museums, etc. We never felt unsafe, although homeless are around. The city is exceptionally clean.
The buffet (included for us) was really great. There was a wide variety of food. no complaints.
The hotel is very child friendly.
My only feedback would be for the central bar area. It needed some music and friendlier staff. It's "fist come first serve" the cocktail lady said. That left us hovering over tables to get a seat. Someone should run that room better.

Room Tip: ask for the second tower. looks newer, and is quiet.
