To start off, do not plan a party here- it is very overpriced with no benefits whatsoever. Just plan a picnic party outside at the Mission or something and then bring the kids here to play. We were rudely tossed out, their comments and attitudes were very unappreciated and unwelcome and it was so bad that I might not ever come back. Places are often all about the service and the staff. The party was not cheap either and even though our party was for a bunch of 'almost two' year olds, we were charged for all of them and the adults and the museum did not make it easy by any means. We thought going someplace was going to make it easier- we were so wrong! There are many other options for parties, and this should be your last. Now for the museum:
If you have fond memories of the Children's Museum, don't go here. You'll be sorely disappointed. No more bubble enclosure, no more dinosaur slide you have to climb through, no moon room... ugh. It's a little heart-breaking, really.
As for the new facility, it is three stories of stuff to do, but it all just stuff to do, nothing really unusual, creative, or imaginative except for maybe the fire station where you can dress up. It's really more of a place to bring friends to hang out with kids, but it's lost it's luster. If you need to get out of the house, this is just one of the many options you have in San Luis Obispo County..

My 3 year old had a blast at this interactive children's museum! The staff was great, and it was as clean as could be considering the target audience

My 18 month old spent an hour an a half here. If I had been willing to let him get soaked it probably would have been two hours. Each floor took him about 30 minute to explore and the outside water table and waterwheel were right up his alley. I highly recommend it for families with little kids. I have a feeling kids 9 and above might not find it as interesting but it was definitely worth the price of admission for us.

We went back to the San Luis Obispo Children's Museum again this year. We have been here a number of times and even though my kids are older including a tween they all love it. There is something for everyone and it has become an annual pilgrimage of sorts. It is not a big museum, but it has plenty of activities to appeal to multiple ages of children. There are some science focused exhibits, a pretend doctors office and small outdoor play area to name a few of the activities. It is well worth a visit the next time you are in SLO.
