Rocky so good shoes are needed. Bring plenty of water and it will be a pleasant climb. Lots of locals and students on the hike. Views are worth it.

Great Hike close to town. BE AWARE….take a lot of water. It's deceiving at first, only 2 miles up but if the sun is out and it's hot, it beats down on you the whole way up. Starting at the end of Highland Dr. there is a trailhead. Follow trail up, passed water tank, left after Bishop Peak Trail gate towards the trees. This little section is the only shady section you will have. After coming out of the trees you start to switch back your way up to the top. There is a dog bowl at the top to put some water in for your pooch or hopefully another traveler already filled it for you. It says pets on leash, but our well-behaved pooch ran along side us without a leash. We encountered a lot of dogs, both on and off leash. Overall a great hike. My wife survived it 7 months pregnant and 80 deg. weather.

Great way to start the day hiking at Bishop's Peak! Overlooking the clouds, this hike allows you to work the leg muscles as you encounter, flat ground, boulders and smaller stones/rocks. A steady climb upward to the top, a great form of exercise not to mention an incredible view! I would recommend making the time to find and hike up Bishop's Peak!

Strenuous at first but gets easier once you hit the switchbacks, Views all the way out to Morro Bay on a clear day. The best time to go is in the winter or early spring when the hills are green.
