“Interesting”
Reviewed 25 July 2013 via mobile

Glad we took the time to go here. We were camping in El Chorro which is part of the regional park since we were so close we stopped and looked around. Can't beat the price -free! It was small but I liked to look and learn about the different plant life.

“Beautiful Kid Friendly Environment”
Reviewed 23 July 2013

Free, self led tour. Beautiful gardens featuring low water CA native plants. Great picture taking opportunities for family portraits or photography hobby. Great location for families with kids looking to save money. Nearby campground, playground and auditorium with restrooms and giftshop to buy plants. Wear tennis shoes for the gardens. Those afraid of lizards, bees or squirrels should avoid.

“Small!”
Reviewed 26 June 2013

My daughters and I visited on a Wednesday morning and finished looking around the entire botanical garden in less than 30 minutes. Maybe there will be more to do once it has been expanded. The three of us had the whole garden to ourselves except for a couple of dog walkers. There is a children's playground and 2 large climbing rocks across the garden that the girls enjoyed.

“Great spot, tucked away!”
Reviewed 17 May 2013

The SLO Botanical Garden is a great, hidden gem - full of plants that grow well on the Central Coast. My daughter and her scout troop had a wonderful lesson in the Children's Garden with a focus on pizza ingredients! I got to browse an amazing art show where all the items had been made with recycled or "found" items. Some great pieces! I look forward to returning!

“Mediterranean botanical garden with a BIG vision!”
Reviewed 14 May 2013

The 150-acre garden will be the only garden of its kind in the world exclusively devoted to the ecosystems and plants of the five mediterranean climate regions of the world. Components will include 50 miles of paved trails; restaurants and cafés; a 4,000-seat amphitheater; demonstration, meditation, and event gardens; sustainable buildings for education and research and an explosion of art, all linked by innovative transportation methods to provide easy access to the inspiring views throughout the Garden’s 500-foot elevation change. Today, there's a 2-acre "Preview Garden", a contemplation and Children's Garden; the "greenest" building in San Luis Obispo County, and BIG, BIG plans for the future. Currently there are programs every second Saturday of the month for adults, and every third Saturday for kids. There is a fabulous summer camp for kids, and our grandkids have attended twice and loved it! There are really great concerts, art shows, cooking classes, and workshops. A recent workshop taught pine needle basket making. The uniqueness of the garden is remarkable. It is about sustainability, fire-safe and water saving measures. All plants come from one of the 5 mediterranean climate zones of the world. They have great programs to connect people (kids especially) with nature. Unplug your kids and/or grandkids from i-things, and get them out to the Garden for some "nature!" They'll love it. A must see. Go out to review the Preview Garden, or to attend an event.
