San Luis Creek Lodge

We stayed in Room 626 - upstairs in the Plantation Building and backing up to the creek. Loved the tropical decor and the natural light coming into the huge bathroom from the skylight. Terrific linens and towels. The Plantation Building is the quietest of the 3 buildings making up the San Luis Creek Lodge. Everything was spic and span and attention to detail in all entries to the 3 different buildings. Patty was very helpful when I called to make the reservation and Brady was attentive when we checked in. Brownies and cool lemonade were laid out in the Reception Area. June was the friendly cook in charge of the eggs in the morning and she would cook up whatever you faniced. Hotel very much more upmarket than its neighbors and very convenient location for the trolley. A much more romantic, elegant room than anticipated. Best of the San Luis Obispo hotels by far - for couples.

The photos and descriptions would lead you to believe that this hotel is something truly unique and special. And while it's nicer than your average Motel 6, in actuality it's not terribly amazing, especially when you factor in the price. The hotel itself is wedged in between a bunch of other hotels in the most hotel laden section of town (quite near a Motel 6 actually) and while it's well furnished, it's really just not that special. Trip Advisor makes it look like this establishment is secluded and unique but in reality it's just another hotel in a long row of hotels in the area. The main difference being that this hotel is really quite expensive. While they are very hospitable and offer free breakfast (actual hot food, not just cereal) as well lemonade and brownies annd DVD rentals (for free) when you crunch the numbers- they just don't add up. This establishment just isn't worth the price. Simply being nicer than the places around it doesn't mean it's worth what they charge. The folks who run it are nice, the little extras they offer are pleasant but in the final analysis it's just not a great deal, overall.

The San Luis Creek Lodge is a perfectly nice and comfortable hotel -- but certainly nothing at all special. In my opinion, there's no real charm or luxury. For $250/night and a #1 Tripadvisor rating, I was expecting more. All in all, I'd rather just stay at the Marriot.
PROS -- Clean, nice, comfortable rooms (a good step up from, for example, an Embassy Suites); friendly staff.
CONS -- The "grounds" consist entirely of a parking lot; it's on a busy street next to the Comfort Inn and a bunch of other motels; not at all walkable to downtown SLO; breakfast was so-so.

This hotel is charming. The rooms are very nice, clean and modern. We stayed in the Craftsman 408. When we arrived there was some confusion with our room reservation. We had reserved a King bed but upon arrival, we were told we were in a Double Queen room. I was disappointed and confused as we had reserved a King Bed. In addition, the day before I was told that if I called in the morning early, I would be allowed an early check in if no one had been in the room the night before. As of that evenings call, no one was in our reserved room. But, when I called the next morning and I was told by a different clerk that no early check are allowed at this hotel.

Because of all the room shuffling and confusions at check in, we were offered a reduction in our room rate which I thought was a good compromise. Then, after some more confusion, we were in a King room after all? It all seemed a bit unorganized but again the rooms was nice.

I will say that we had some issue with the noise. The room above us had a lot of activity and you could hear the folks walking(sounded like stomping around)very late. Also, we could hear "adult activity" noises coming from the room above as well which was a bit awkward to say the least.

There was supposed to be free wi-fi in our room. I was unable to get signal for this hotels wi-fi, I could see it in my list of available networks but there was no signal strong enough to connect. I ended up using the Motel 6 Free wi-fi that was just next door to our hotel. Their signal was strong and it worked fine.

The breakfast was a nice addition. the french toast was tasty and the selection of breads and pastries was good. The fruit in the bowl was molding and they ran out of coffee in the pot while were were there.

All and all I would say it was fine but hard to be totally positive about the place. The people were nice and tried hard to fix all the little problems as they arose but it all this place felt a bit unorganized to me.

We appreciate this guest taking the time to let us know about his stay. I called him just after he arrived and was disconnected; I called again and left a message but never heard back from him.

We have two new employees who are helping out during our busy summer season and they are very conscientious and accommodating. Unfortunately, one newer staff member advised this guest that he was in a double queen room upon arrival when he was actually in the premium Craftsman king fireplace room that he requested. The staff member recognized his error and lliterally ran after the guest and advised him that he had made an error and that the guest was in his special oversized premium fireplace king room afterall. The guest was extended a discount for this miscommunicating of the room type.

Summer is a busy time in most destinations; guests tend to be more lively, frisky, and fun-loving than other times of the year. We generally provide a quiet adult environment but occasionally, and especially during the summer, we do host honeymooners and children who may tend to be more rambunctious.

This particular guest called at 9am Saturday requesting a morning check-in. We tried to not sell his room the previous night but it was a busy summer Friday night and his room was occupied the previous night to a walk-in guest. Thus, we were unable to accommodate his morning check-in request. Understandably, the guest had a moderately hostile reaction to the news so we knew that it would be somewhat challenging to make them happy.

We strive to convert negative impressions into positive ones but are not always successful as was the case in this guest's stay. Our regular check-in time is 4pm; guests may always check in early when the room is clean and has been inspected. Check-out time is 12:00noon and we do extend late check-outs whenever possible.

This Bed n' Breakfast was amazing. My boyfriend and I planned a last minute trip and came across this place. It was beautiful, quiet, and a reasonable price for a weekend in the summer. It was also walking distance from down town San Luis Obispo and just a few blocks down was the amazing Splash Cafe. We will definitely be back!

Awesome bed and breakfast, it has all the amenities of a big hotel but it has that bed and breakfast charm. The room was great, we were in the Plantation room upstairs, huge comfy bed and the bathroom was recently remodeled and it was fantastic. They offer wine and brownies when you arrive and the breakfast is great! I highly recommend. About a mile into town and the walk is super easy. I'll be back for sure!!

We were able to check in a few hrs early after calling ahead. Upon arrival, inn keeper helped arrange dinner res at a great seafood restaurant (ciopinot's). The room was cozy yet did not feel outdated like many other b&bs we've been at.
Note: we had a breakfast in bed special, which incl an upgraded room w a fireplace; the bfast delivery was very punctual and catered to our specific requests (in items and delivery time). The fireplaces are simulated ELECTRIC, so don't expect real flame or wood (maybe it's firecode?).
They were great about letting us check out several DVDs for free and overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in SLO. We would definitely come back.
