“What a joke.”
Reviewed 13 May 2014 via mobile

If we had paid $100 or less per night for our stay in the 'Pioneer America' room I might have laughed at the irony the Madonna Inn portrays in its tackiness. However, as our one night stay cost us over $200 the laugh was clearly at our expense! (No breakfast included at this price either.)
The room was musty and tired and the all the fittings and furniture had a cheap feel and look about them. The bed was uncomfortable too.
We went to have a look around and found that the rest of the complex was the same. I am all in favour of a novelty themed hotel but as a previous reviewer mentioned, this one is living off it's reputation from at least 30 years ago, which is when I assume it last decorated or had a long hard look at itself.
My advice would be to stop for a coffee in the cafe on your way past and congratulate yourself on not spending any more money here.
This place is a $60 - $70 a night motel at best.

Upon a friendly check-in we were allocated our room, but when we got to our room it wasn't what we were expecting (our fault entirely). However, a simple phone call to Reception and we were invited to look through a book to choose one of the vacant rooms and we found one we liked at no extra cost. As each room is unique, it is just a question of preference. The staff were most helpful and understanding about it.
We spent one night at this Hotel in a Rock Waterfall room 191. It was very pleasant, clean with a comfortable bed. The room was spacious, well equipped and there was no sound from neighbouring rooms.
We ate in The Copper Kettle and were made to feel very welcome. The food was tasty and reasonably priced. I really wanted to try their cakes as they looked so delicious but I just didn't have room.
It is really worth looking at the history of this uniquely amazing themed hotel as it is fascinating and puts meaning in to the vision of The Madonnas Dream.
I would certainly recommend at least one night in this Hotel, it's a truly memorable experience!

We stayed in the Yahoo room about a month ago. The room had a wild west theme (our bed was an old horse carriage). They really paid attention to detail (down to the trash can that was an old spittoon). However, it was still a comfortable and functional room. The grounds are beautiful. The restaurants are a must see. We did not eat at the restaurant or the cafe. We only had a cocktail and dessert at the bar (pink champagne with a pink champagne cake). The entire bar is PINK. It's awesome. They even have a live band with locals who frequent there to dance. There is a spa, pool, and Jacuzzi. They keep the pool about 80 degrees during the winter so it's still usable. The views were spectacular. I would definitely recommend this hotel because it's an experience you will never forget or really find anywhere else.

Stayed here for one night on our way through to San Francisco. Craziest place ever! We had the jungle rocks room, complete with waterfall shower. Pool and jacuzzi were nice to relax in. A must if you are ever in San Luis Obispo, so many themed rooms to choose from!

We have driven buy a couple of times when we were traveling up to Cambria from Carlsbad, but we never stopped. So this time we did, we stopped for breakfast. My husband, son and his wife had a great breakfast. I got the Champagne Cake and yes it was for breakfast. It was great, very rich, I did manage to eat it all by myself, even though it was a very big piece. It was very crowded, and they told us the wait would be about 25min but it was less than 15min.
It is definitely a unique place, it should be seen by everyone at least once. I'm not sure about staying there.

I have stayed at the Madonna Inn many times. Partly for the unique rooms, but mainly because of their great spa. The rooms are indeed unique, but unless you get one of the suites made out of rock, they are tired and threadbare-worn. The lower row of rooms are Motel6 quality with unusual decorations. The walls are paper thin and transmit sound clearly. The rock suites are very cool, but otherwise the entire hotel is overpriced and has out-lived their reputation. Their steakhouse has stratospheric pricing.

Room Tip: choose one of the rock suites, (Kona Rock, Yosemite Rock, Caveman, etc.), they are really unique. A...

We were leaving SLO after staying there for two nights when we noticed the Madonna Inn. We had heard about wierd and wonderful it was so we called in to have a look around. What a feast for the eyes, the imagination and the soul. It's amazing! You just have to see it, words can't describe it. I don't know what genre of interior design it falls into but it breaks all the rules and invents its own. I can't comment on the service or facilities because we didn't stay there but if you want a visual treat call in if you're passing.
