Each room is unique. A picture of each room is available on-line. This room has a partial rock wall behind a sofa with wallpaper above which looks odd. The room is a good size, end unit with windows on two sides and in the bathroom, but it is near the ice machine and we could hear laundry machines during the day both days. We did hear kids during the day and could hear people talking and walking at night. The shower is on the small side with rock walls and smells like a cave. The room has a musty smell too. My favorite is the pool and hot tubs. Breakfast is a short walk down the hill, large portions and good service.

My family and I stayed for 1 night at the Madonna Inn. My children thought the rooms were not updated. However, they could not see the charm in each and every inch of this place. This place is the most unique lodging I had ever stayed at. We checked in at night and our room was called Springtime. It was lovely. When we woke up in the morning, we had breakfast. the breakfast was so tasty and the restaurant was decorated so uniquely. One of the highlights was the pool and hot tubs. 85% in the pool overlooking the most beautiful scenery. Add this hotel to your bucket list of things to do in Califronia.

Thank you for your wonderful review and for bringing your family to stay with us! All of our rooms were renovated and updated in 2008. I'm happy that you appreciated the small details that make us so unique!

The Madonna Inn is charming, unique and very pink. You should definitely stop for a meal to experience the folly of Alex Madonna. I'd think twice, however, before spending the night here. Our room was dark and and musty, though it appeared clean. It's dated by design with one part bordello, two parts thrift store and a dash of Louis XIV's garage sale. When you check in, you must sign a contract agreeing not to remove anything from the rooms. No chance of that happening! The Inn is a true "motor hotel" where you can park outside your room, but because of this coupled with the fact that Hwy 101 is a stone's throw away, this place is loud and noisy. It was not restful listening to conversations in the next room or semi trucks rumbling down the highway all night. The beds are soft and lumpy and the room lighting is terrible, with barely enough light for reading. The bathrooms have been modernized which is a plus. The Spa and Fitness center are newer additions with modern amenities, but the Spa decor is still 19th century brothel. Bottom line: This place is a must see for a bite and visit to the bakery or a good spa treatment but I suggest the Embassy Suites across the street for a good nights sleep.

They don't build them like this anymore I recommend stopping just to see the property and see the inside.
Lots of pink lots of handcarved wood in the bar and again ,
lots of pink.
The restaurant was completely full on a Sunday brunch time visit.
Beer was a little pricey at seven dollars for a bottle of sierra Nevada

I've passed this place several times but never been; that changed when we had a wedding and most people were staying here.

Just look on its website to see that each room is BIZARRELY decorated. That is, of course, part of the Madonna's appeal and fun. You can have fun picking a room or just go with it; they're all weird. The great thing about the Madonna is, you can kinda spend what you want. There's a room for every budget. I will say, there was a wooden curved staircase outside our room that was quite loud, so bring a sound machine in case you are near that.

We didn't eat at the restaurant, which is pricey and looked very old-school -- again, part of the appeal, but not how I like to eat. The bar was great, though, and also oddly decorated. The drinks were bizarre as well -- one was Easter-themed and had a Peep on top.

My favorite part of the place, though, was the pool. It's heated constantly and so warm that I, who hates pools, went in. The hot tub is even hotter. You can order food & drinks poolside (do it on the early side to avoid the crowds, like 11:30 or 12), and it's a great place to hang out.

The campus is nice -- it's a huge property -- and there was a town-like area that was easy to walk to to get food or drugstore supplies.

Go for the kitsch, stay for the pool, and experience the Madonna at least once in your life if you're near San Luis Obispo.

If we had paid $100 or less per night for our stay in the 'Pioneer America' room I might have laughed at the irony the Madonna Inn portrays in its tackiness. However, as our one night stay cost us over $200 the laugh was clearly at our expense! (No breakfast included at this price either.)
The room was musty and tired and the all the fittings and furniture had a cheap feel and look about them. The bed was uncomfortable too.
We went to have a look around and found that the rest of the complex was the same. I am all in favour of a novelty themed hotel but as a previous reviewer mentioned, this one is living off it's reputation from at least 30 years ago, which is when I assume it last decorated or had a long hard look at itself.
My advice would be to stop for a coffee in the cafe on your way past and congratulate yourself on not spending any more money here.
This place is a $60 - $70 a night motel at best.

Upon a friendly check-in we were allocated our room, but when we got to our room it wasn't what we were expecting (our fault entirely). However, a simple phone call to Reception and we were invited to look through a book to choose one of the vacant rooms and we found one we liked at no extra cost. As each room is unique, it is just a question of preference. The staff were most helpful and understanding about it.
We spent one night at this Hotel in a Rock Waterfall room 191. It was very pleasant, clean with a comfortable bed. The room was spacious, well equipped and there was no sound from neighbouring rooms.
We ate in The Copper Kettle and were made to feel very welcome. The food was tasty and reasonably priced. I really wanted to try their cakes as they looked so delicious but I just didn't have room.
It is really worth looking at the history of this uniquely amazing themed hotel as it is fascinating and puts meaning in to the vision of The Madonnas Dream.
I would certainly recommend at least one night in this Hotel, it's a truly memorable experience!
