“Bonkers!!!!!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 June 2009

Stayed here for one night in the Jungle Rock room and absolutely loved it. First of all, this is NOT the Four Seasons, but I wasn't expecting it to be. What it is, and what it delivered on in spades, is an absolutely bonkers experience. My friend and I loved our room and the waterfall shower was a nice touch. But the highlight was the steak house, which is an explosion of pinkness! It really is barking mad but does serve fabulous steaks. Don't stay here if you're looking for an all mod cons, perfect, clinical hotel. DO stay here if you're up for some fun and like to experience something a little bit different. Some reviewers mention the traffic but I can honestly say that I didn't notice any noise. Yes, the hotel is probably slightly faded at the edges, but age has that effect on all of us, so give it a go because it really is great fun and, whilst I love the Four Seasons, I wouldn't have missed this place for the world.

My Mom and I stayed in the Fabulous 50s room for a night during a Hearst Castle trip. The room was great, clean and appeared to have been updated recently. We were in the building closest to the highway but the road noise didn't bother us. Pink robes in the bathroom were a nice touch. The rooms can have a drab look when looking on them online but the ones that we saw were clean, updated and nice.

We loved the heated pool and the jacuzzis! The pool is large and fantastic. Actually being able to enjoy an outdoor pool when it's cool out is wonderful. We also used the exercise gym which has nice machines and equipment.

I had read about service at the Copper Cafe being slow and the prices being high, but we had a late breakfast there and service was good. Prices for food are very high, but we split an omelett and a fruit bowl and it was plenty; we had to save room for Champagne cake!

I will stay at the Madonna Inn again!

We stayed here for one night on our honeymoon - a night we regret! We stayed in the Old World suite, which was impressive. Waterfall shower and sink and large fireplace gave a great first impression, as did the complimentary "champagne" left for our honemoon. We were put in the wrong suite to stay with our one-year old however, as the rock floor was not very soft for her to land on as she learns to walk! The pool area was very nice, but the view was obliterated by the constant drone of the freeway close by.

Our stay was ruined however by our trip to the Gold Rush Steakhouse. This garish restaurant served up VERY average food at extortionate prices, and my poor wife caught food poisoning from the shrimp pasta, which meant she became very accustomed to the toilet in our suite. Not the most romantic part of our honeymoon... On complaining in the morning at check-out, we were told no one else had complained so tough luck, but please take a complimentary postcard of your room!!!

Overall, our stay was a disaster, but even without the restaurant issue, it was still nowhere near worth the $299 + tax we paid for the room. It's a motel with fancy rooms...

The Madonna Inn is all that people say about it. I’m not sure what style the buildings exteriors are supposed to be – fairytale springs to mind. Interior wise – bizarre. I’m sure that you will either love it or hate it, but either way it will be memorable. We had the Highway Suite, almost plain compared to some rooms, with a boulder fireplace, rock shower and balcony. One negative might be all the stairs to carry the luggage up & down. The restaurant is decked out in shocking pink, red and gold with gold cupids hanging from the ceiling and thousands of fairy lights. Even so the food was good and reasonably priced. Don’t miss the waterfall urinal in the gents, even if you are a lady.

I was looking forward to staying here for a night as I figured it would be a fun, if tacky, place to stay. I would say that I was actualy very surprised at the overall quality of the hotel. The pool was actually very nice with 2 seperate, private spas at the top of the property. The room was very clean and well kept (we stayed in the Austrian Suite) and had 2 flatscreens with pay-per-view. The only disappointment was the Steakhouse. The food was anything BUT gourmet, but the atmostphere was nice and I would still recommend that you eat there just because its fun, but dont expect much in the way of sophisticated dining.

i have stayed in the madonna inn many times over a period of 35 years. it has always held a serious spot in my heart for destination hotels, but our last stay convinced me to stay elsewhere, but eat here. our room, the espana, reeked heavily of either mildew or heavily-scented cleanser, but the mixture of the two was very strong and overwhelming. there were stains on the bedspread of both beds, which we automatically removed immediately. we searched everywhere for an internet connection, which we eventually found - a cord hanging from the ceiling near the door of the room, wrapped with a rubber band and a piece of electrical tape to which the words: "internet: $9.95" had been printed. quite surprising, as in order to use it one would have to stand over there holding your laptop - no desk or table nearby, only to get hit with the door whenever anyone used it. the smell of the sulphur springs permeated the bathroom - i guess there's not much one can do about that - but nonetheless, be forewarned.

the coffee shop was quite nice and our breakfast was great - loved the pink sugar, as always. $100 for 2 adults and 2 teenagers is sort of high, would you say? dinner at the steakhouse was wonderful - here the value was seen for the price.

the pool area was recently redone and the kids loved it. the rest of the hotel, as far as rooms go, need surgery SOON! (thin walls, decrepit and peeling furniture, faded drapes and bedspreads long past their prime, old rickety beds, squeaking heard from above all night, freeway noise....i could go on but i will simply pray that the owners take a good hard look and realize this hotel needs some work!)

We always enjoy reading the candid comments from our guests and take the opportunity to use them as a learning tool. Madonna Inn Resort & Spa recently completed full renovations of rooms including many upgrades such as, new and refurbished furniture, additional can lighting, custom bedspreads and upgraded bathrooms (some with Toto Washlet toilet seats). In addition, the Reservation Office has been renovated and now has a business center. We take great pride in offering superior service in a unique and hospitable environment. We treasure working with our guests to ensure that they are completely satisfied during their stay. If a guest encounters a situation that needs attention, we always recommend that they contact our staff so that we can quickly and efficiently address their concerns. Madonna Inn Resort & Spa offers a variety of amenities to hotel guests including complimentary wireless access in all public areas, state of the art fitness center, European style infinity pool with beach entry, and the 3500 square foot Day Spa.
