Both times I have stayed at this hotel, I have found the staff to be extremely welcoming and helpful in many ways. The rooms were quite comfortable, and the breakfast was very good, offering many choices. There were several restaurants within easy walking distance of the hotel. This is an excellent choice for anyone traveling by train, although a taxi ride is required.

I highly recommend this hotel. We have stayed here numerous times & the service is always excellent. This last time they even upgraded us to a King room for no extra charge. I like it b/c it is very clean and close to downtown. They have a pretty good continental breakfast in the AM too.

We stayed here one night while looking at the university. Chris was very friendly and gave us a great rate for the evening. Room was clean and bed was comfortable. They also had binders full of DVDs to check out for free. The only negative was my pillow was lumpy. They should have more pillows on the bed.

Overall I will stay here again I really enjoyed my stay.

Hello 4words,

Just dropping a note to thank you for your review. We truly value the feedback.

We have two clerks names Chris here who both work the evening shifts, and lately they've been on a roll. Every time I turn around one guest or another is telling me how nice "Chris" was to them. I'm glad to hear that one of them took good care of you during your visit.

Many of our guests agree with you about the selection of movies available to check-out free of charge; it's nice to have a fall-back option of something to do when it rains (like yesterday) ... or even if you just want to stay in and relax.

As far as the lumpy pillow, I am sorry to hear about that. We (maybe even since you last stayed) got all new pillows in the rooms. We are moving away from the two pillows to a four-pillow set-up on the beds, in addition to the more modern-style triple sheeting. We'll see if you're not more comfortable on your next visit!

We enjoyed hosting you and your family, and here's hoping you select Cal Poly (it's a wonderful school!) for your student. If so, we look forward to being your home away from home whenever you come visit.

Kind Regards,

Matthew F. Wilkins

We used the Sands Inn as a base for three families with kids ranging from 5 to 15 to explore SLO and surrounding areas. The hotel staff was great! I want to emphasize this point in this review. Chris and Chris were accommodating and helpful in our booking...beating Obitz in both price and convenience. Then they made an effort to keep the families together. Outstanding service. The queen suites were clean and perfectly suited for a family of five. Pool and hot tub were well maintained and a big hit with the kids. The hotel is a short four block walk to downtown, and there is a nice bakery even closer. The complementary breakfast is fine....the kids loved making their own waffles, but the coffee was blah. Good value for a place to sleep and as a starting point to explore SLO.

Greetings scwave,

I wanted to take a moment and express our gratitude for your glowing review. We truly value you letting other travelers know just how hard we try to make our guests comfortable.

Our Queen Suites, with two queen beds in the main sleeping area and a pull-out sofa in the living area, are indeed a great fit for families.

We get our coffee beans fresh from a local supplier and grind them each morning just before we make the brew. However, I have heard from some other guests who felt the same as you did recently, which has us exploring other some other options. Don't be surprised if there is a different variety or brand on your next visit. We are always tinkering to find ways to keep our guests satisfied.

The weather is beautiful here today, by the way ... maybe we will see you folks again sooner that later? We'll be right here.

Sincerely,

Matthew F. Wilkins

We chose this hotel as a place to sleep while wine tasting around the area. It is not fancy, so don't expect too much. It is, however, easy to find, has friendly and helpful staff, clean and has a fridge and microwave. You should consider this place if you plan on seeing the surrounding area and simply need a place to lay your head.

Amanda D,

Thank you for your nice review. We are glad you had a chance to stay with us while exploring the local wineries. Many people know of the wineries up in Paso Robles, but the Edna Valley, which is right in our backyard, has many great offerings as well. I hope you had a chance to check some of those out too. My favorites are Edna Valley Winery, Talley Vineyards and, a bit further south, Leticia.

We appreciate your kind words about our staff, and are glad that you found your room to be clean and comfortable. Thanks again for letting other travelers know. We hope to see you again sometime.

Warm Regards,

Many motels/hotels in town, but The Sands is consistently good and well priced. Chris was very helpful and offered freshly baked chocolate chip cookies when we checked in. Since it was raining he also made sure we had a room near the office and that we could park in the covered garage.
The room was large, quiet and equipped with a micro-wave and small fridge. The included breakfast was in a nice room behind the office and consisted of scrambled eggs, sausage, juices, waffles, yogurt, bagels, pastries, coffee and cream-of-wheat. A great spread for a motel breakfast.

Room Tip: Ask for a premium king room if traveling on a week day or the low season.

"Do you want a cookie?" was the first question Chris, the customer service person asked when I stood in front of him at the reception counter. He was friendly and very careful to write down the breakfast hours in the morning and also the wireless access. He then pointed us to our rooms..

The rooms were beautiful designed, clean and bigger than expected. All facilities work. The bed were firm.

Location of the hotel is great and not too far from the highway. It was not noisy at all.

We had a full breakfast with self made waffle, eggs station etc. really enjoyed our stay.

Will come again...
