We spent the night over the past weekend. From the time we made our reservation, the staff was more than accommodating. They were courteous on the phone and that continued when we arrived. They were knowledgeable about their jobs and even helped us find a shoe store as our son had forgotten to pack his. We had a two bedroom suite with two baths. It was like an apartment. The room was very comfortable and was very clean. The bed was one of the most comfortable my wife and I had ever slept on. We awoke feeling very refreshed. Our son who does not like to leave home commented that he had enjoyed the stay very much and also had a very restful sleep. My wife needed to use the laundry facilities and said they were excellent. the breakfast the hotel provided in the morning was very good. Again, the kitchen staff was very good and courteous. The front desk staff was great!! Would stay again and recommend it to anyone wanting a first class hotel.

Stayed here for a couple of nights while playing golf in the area. Got a great welcome and the first night there was a free barbeque with wine and beer, no need to go out!! breakfast both mornings was good and the service was excellent. Clearly a lot of long stay guests who knew one anothr and were friendly with the staff.

Located in an industrial area with new building work opposite but just a few minutes from a lot of restaurants.

My wife and I are at the end of a wonderful three-week stay in this very beautiful, new and clean hotel. We also stayed here in 2011 for three weeks and loved it then, too.

We had a few issues this time and my wife posted them in a Trip Advisor review very early on in this visit. We are both delighted that the amazing staff responded both in writing and with action to our complaints, and did so very cheerfully. Dogs are no longer in the breakfast area, and healthy veggie burgers are offered along with regular hamburgers even though it is no longer Ash Wednesday. Our room is still on the back side of the hotel, but, as it turns out, there is construction going on across the street from the front side, so we are very happy with the quiet top floor room we were assigned.

We would like to thank all the staff, especially General Manager Liberty Barajas, Sales Coordinator Linda Costello whom we know from 2012, and also Danica and Lovey. We still have a few days here and look forward very much to coming back again! Thanks again for everything you do to make this such a great hotel.

Hotel is beautiful, front desk staff are constantly greeting you on your way in and way out everyday...Maintenance responds FAST...Housekeeping even makes the kids stuffed animals comfortable (our kids love coming in to see them relaxing on the fresh linens)...

I do have to send a big, HUGE shout out :) Lovie, Mitch & David that run the breakfast (everyday) and the happy hour (Mon-Wed) ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!...You can never tell if they are having a bad day, are tired or even super busy...They continually are taking pride in their work area and are always willing to take a moment to get whatever someone is asking for no matter how busy they might be at that moment...They are always smiling, asking "How are you today?", "How is your visit going?"...Our kids (6 & 10) look for these individuals everyday to say hello to...This is huge for our 6yr old that is special needs...You can tell that these 3 aren't here just for a paycheck, they ENJOY what they do...For them to know names of others who are staying here is awesome...Our family has only stayed at one other location 9yrs ago that had the same kind of service...My kids want them to come home with us :) We are going to miss them when we leave tomorrow morning, but we plan to visit again :)

Nice check in staff that handled a potentially negative check in issue very well. Room was well cleaned, kitchen was well stocked, beds were comfy. Breakfast was more than adequate and the staff kept up with demand. Staff offered plenty of recommendations for restaurants and things to do in the area. If you are in San Marcos this would be a great place to stay

Our family traditionally spends about a week in Southern California every winter. In recent years, we have used the Carlsbad area as our home base, given it's equal distance to the things in Orange County and San Diego we go down for. For our first few years of using Carlsbad as our base, we used the Homewood Suites in Carlsbad as our home away from home. After an incredible stay at a Portland, OR Residence Inn property, we decided to give the San Marcos location a try. We did not regret that choice.

We arrived on a Wednesday afternoon for the beginning of a 9 night stay. After a long day of travel, we had hoped that we could check in at 2:30 pm, but the front desk clerk apologized profusely that our room was not ready, and check in time was at 4. She checked with housekeeping twice, but said that there was an issue with the room, and it would take at least an hour to rectify. Since we had plans to be in Orange County already (an hour drive), we decided to leave for the OC only. This was the only thing about the hotel we had any disappointment with.

Once we were checked into our room later that evening, we had nothing to complain about. We had a two bedroom suite, and it was just as good as our Portland experience. The suite was roomy, clean, and was the perfect place for a family to stay. It gave the adults enough space for some privacy and peace from the children, and the two bathrooms made getting ready every day a breeze.

One of the reasons we stayed at the local Homewood was the fact that it was quiet. A major trepidation I had with staying here was that the hotel was literally located right off the 78 Freeway, and we would hear traffic noise all night long. Not once did we ever hear any road noise. In fact, it was probably one of the most quiet hotels we've stayed out where external noise was concerned.

Another thing that had us preferring the Homewood in previous years was its location. It was only a five minute drive from the Carlsbad Outlets and turnoff onto I-5. The Residence Inn was about another 10-15 minutes away from those locations, and longer during rush hour. However, the Homewood is surrounded by no other amenities. The Residence Inn was literally a stone's throw away from a power centre, with several restaurants, department stores, and other shops that made up for the extra commuting we needed to do to get to where we wanted to get to. It became a wash anyway because many of our favourite restaurants in the area were in San Marcos, so going out for food was more convenient that way. So the extra commuting turned into a wash in the end. If anything, things were better because we could take I-15 into San Diego, which was better for us because of the two HOV lanes that I-15 has south of the 78.

Some of the other amenities this hotel provided that were more than adequate were the pool area, parking lot, and internet access. Our two children really enjoyed the pool, and it was immaculately maintained. The pool towels were of very high quality, not like the thin pool towels we consistently find at other hotels. The parking lot area was well lit, and the stall size did not make you feel like you were going to be squeezed like sardines or you need to take up more than one stall through no fault of your own. Because I require consistent internet access for when I need to plug into work, having a fast and constant connection was much appreciated.

But the staff of this hotel is what will tip us to staying here for our future hotel needs in the area. Not once were we not greeted with a warm smile or an inquiry on how everything was going. It went all the way from the housekeeping staff, front desk, management and breakfast bar. The Homewood staff were very good, but never seemed to want to go the extra mile for their clients. We thought the staff here would do so.

We are glad to now know that there are two hotels in the area that we would be comfortable staying whenever we are in the area. Our first choice now will be this Residence Inn location. Hands down, it is one of the best family hotels we have come across.

Room Tip: Our two favourite restaurants in the immediate area are Mama Kat's for breakfast and lunch, whil...

Looks to be less than 1-2 years old. Super friendly staff. Easy access to the 78. Rooms were clean and I slept well. Gym was adequate. Nice outdoor pool. I would stay again for sure especially if you are in the Carlsbad / Vista / San Marco area.
