San Mateo Marriott San Francisco Airport
Ranked #3 of 12 Hotels in San Mateo
Reviewed 3 August 2011

We stayed at this Mariott the last two days of our West Coast vacation so that we were fairly close to SFO for a early Monday flight. It is located about 5 miles from the airport near the 101 and other main highways in what I would call an office park area. Downtown, which has some cute shops and cafe's is about two miles away. Accomodatins were comfortable and appeared fairly new. Rooms were spacious and no room is higher then 3 floors up. They have a nice pool area with a hot tub that is located in a enclosedgarden area surroudned on all sides by the hotel. Front desk was friendly and helpful. We did not use any of their bar or restaurant facilities. Our only "complaint", and it is relatively minor, was that this hotel was not located in a downtown area where land is scarce and pricey yet they gated their surface lot and charged $20 a day for parking. I was surprised...I expect this in a downtown area but not for a surface in a more suburban setting. All and all this is a nice hotel and Mariottdoes their usual good job on operating it.

Room Tip: If you want to park close to your room ask for ground floor on the outside parameters of the buildin...

We have family all over bay area from SFO, Oakland and down to San Jose. It is very convenient location to commute up and down and west to east. It is a very huge hotel with lot of rooms. We had found our room very clean and tidy. the down side was this hotel is too big and we got lose easily. there isn't enough elevator. and the parking fee seems pricey. too bad we did not have a chance to spend some time in the pool.

Room Tip: i go to priceline.com to bid the room. very affordable.

Stayed here in Jan'11 for a couple of nights on business. The hotel was OK and clean but quite pricey including those god awful parking prices. The room was clean and bed was grand. As with most Marriott's the breakfast is neither free or cheap or the best you can find for the dollars. I do think they need to consider reducing the breakfast since they charge such high room rate. I would also agree that the parking charges are crazy!

Disappointing experience! Average given only because hotel was clean and amenities on par with other establishments of this level; however, our customer service experience probably warrants a lower rating.
Charged for parking (which is 20 bucks by the way) despite not parking a car with the hotel; parking option declined at check-in. Usually I would overlook the mistake and have it corrected, but when my wife asked to have the fee refunded at check-out she was questioned by the hotel staff. What gives you the right to ask a guest, "Well if you didn't park, how did you get here?" Really!!! I hope the management is ashamed, because I would be! Also, front desk representative wanted to charge us daily rate for the stay, despite having a pre-paid reservation - after the remarks regarding parking, can't say I was really surprised.
Bottom line, stay somewhere else. Management sets the tone for your overall experience. In this industry there is no room for bad days. Also, if you are driving, why pay for parking this far south of San Francisco - I can understand in the city, but here??? I stayed much closer to the city and paid only five last week.

Stayed for three nights. Hotel is very nice, clean and has generously sized rooms. We have always thought Marriott has the most comfortable beds and we were not disappointed. The location is conveniently near Hwy 101 with easy access to the city. This worked great for us as we split our time between San Francisco and Santa Cruz. My only complaint (besides the charge for internet) was that the room needed more electrical outlets and the ones in bathroom needed to be replaced as they are worn out and will not hold a plug securely.
We had a room on the first floor near the back door which can only be opened from the outside with a room key. This proved to be ideal as there is free on street parking behind the hotel which enabled us to avoid a $20/night parking fee. It's first come first serve of course, and a couple of times we had to park over a block or two away, but the area seems very safe so we were not concerned in the least.

Stayed here in March 2011 for 3 nights on a business trip. It is a nice comfortable hotel and is on slightly expensive side (after considering that they charge for parking while hotel is not in a city down-town and breakfast is also not free). However, rooms are well maintained, breakfast (for a fee) is good and restaurant and coffee shop in the hotel give a tired visitor (who doesn't want to venture out) few options. San Mateo downtown and El Camino are also not very far (certainly not walking distance) and give visitor lot of dinning and shopping options.

Overall, my suggestion is if you don't mind paying about $170 and want to stay in San Mateo, go for it, you won't have any complaints. Otherwise if you are budget conscious or want supreme luxury, look for other options (which are plenty in the near by areas).

A friend and I drove from NY to CA and 2 other friends flew to CA to meet us there. We booked this hotel on priceline.com with an affordable price. However, we had no idea there was a $20.00 parking fee. Since we were staying there for 3 nights, this cost us an extra $20.00 per night. The hotel itself was very nice and the beds were extremely comfortable. The hot tub was not working correctly. My friends were booked a room across from mine with a wet carpet and a machine for sterilizing/cleaning the carpet in their room which i found a little tacky. The hotel did move them to another room but unfortunately it was not close to mine. I recommend this hotel for non-commuters/drivers. The hotel did have a relatively efficient shuttle service for the 2 who flew in. I still find it ridiculous that the hotel charged me an extra $60.00 to park. Also, WiFi was only available in the lobby. They charge and add'l $11.95/day for WiFi service. C'mon! Really? no free WiFi in the room?

Thank you for choosing to stay with us while visiting California. It's great to hear that you enjoyed our accommodations and affordable rates. Please know that our parking fees are commensurate with other brand hotels in our area.
