“Good deal and location”

Higly recommended especially for families. The inn also has some pet rooms but expect to place a large deposit. The hotel is a good value. Very clean and well maintained. Hotel is located in a nice neighborhood. Location is convenient to San Francisco, the coast, and eastern bay locations. Train service is minutes away in San Mateo (CalTrain) or San Bruno (Bart and Caltrain). If you take Caltrain, there is a bus across the street from the San Francisoc station that takes you cross town to all locations rather quickly. I think it was the 30 bus, but check the route. The airport is less than 10 minutres by car or taxi.

Stayed in a two floor suite. Bath, closet and bedroom upstairs. Bath, murphy bed and sofa bed downstairs. Fully equipped kitchen and fireplace. Dining area separate. Cable TV was good. Premises were quiet and parking convenient. Laundry is in main office building where washers and dryers are available 24/7. Outdoor pool and two jacuzzis. Exercise room was inadequate except for joggers. There is a supermarket five minutes away and some restaurants as well. San Mateo itself has a nice main street.

Breakfast was included with a large selection of dishes to choose from. Newspaper included. Room service is daily. If you are a Marriott member, I suggest you book through their website.

The photos on the Marriott website are accurate and respresent the property well.

We have had the most delightful experience to end our cross-country move. We found this little gem on the "West Bay" of the peninsula in a small town about 20 miles south of San Francisco.
This property is designed in condominium-style units which are grouped 4 to a building. There are walking paths, a small but useable pool, a basketball court which can also accommodate volleyball and the most amazing complimentary breakfasts that we have ever encountered!
We were at the facility because we have moved to the area and needed a place to stay while we awaited the arrival of our belongings. Not only did we have teenaged boys, but we also had our elderly dog with us. The facility was pet-friendly, though I would recommend asking for a downstairs unit if your pet is older, and offered plenty of activity for our sons who enjoy "shooting hoops" and swimming.
Our unit was a 2-story loft which had a king bed upstairs in the loft and a queen size "murphy bed" in the main floor. There is a small but fully equipped kitchen and a nice fireplace downstairs along with an eating area, office space and very comfortable furniture. There are two full baths, one on each floor, so you don't have to climb the stairs to the loft each time you needed the facilities, which was nice as the stairs are a little steep.
The best part of this facility are the lush, tropical plants which give you the feeling of being not on the continental US, but more like a carribbean location. Even though the property is adjacent to a very busy thoroughfare, and we had an end-unit, we were unaware of the traffic except when emergency vehicles passed, which was not often. I am sure that the plantings help to shield you from the traffic noises, as they are lush and dense.
I would highly recommend this facility to anyone who is planning to visit the San Francisco area. Drivers can reach the city proper in about 20 minutes, and excellent public transportation is available as an alternative from right outside of the hotel. There is a shopping center around the corner where you can find restaurants and discount stores for any supplies. After the hustle and bustle of the city all day, this would be an excellent place to go and "recharge" for the next day.

While the room was clean this had to be the most depressing place I've stayed in for quite some time.

The hotel is an older one located (literally) on a freeway ramp. It is designed as a outdoor motel style entrances and the outside is very dark and not well maintained. Peeling paint and wood, etc. (doorways looking unkempt). As a female business traveler, I did not feel safe here at all, particularly since I could see the light shining through the edges of the doorway. Anyone could access the windows, etc without ever being seen.

After the first night when I drove out in the morning and noticed garbage everywhere spilling all over the garbarge bin in the driveway. Right then, I decided I would never come back (as soon as I could find another hotel).

The room itself was clean but not functional. One could not possiblly work at VERY small work desk that is perched right at the door and window. I spent three nights out of twelve and tomorrow I'm moving to the Hilton Garden Inn, which is much more appropriate for the area.. I felt very incapable of walking the grounds without an escort here, I have nuch better experience with newer residence Inns, but not here, never again,

For the price, and the beautiful Calfornia location, you could do much much better. At this hotel you cannot walk outside anywhere as the freeway promiximity offers no acces without a car, feet won't work.

I really used to look for Residence Inns as a dependable option, but going forward, unless they've been built in the last couple of years, one should keep driving,

The family and I just returned from a two night stay at the Residence Inn San Mateo to attend a wedding. We have stayed at other ones before and kind of new what to expect. First off, it's easy to get to(even though for some reason Marriot doesn't like to put big signs out front to help out) and their online directions were very easy to follow. When we arrived we were greated by a front desk person and the hotel manager. Both were very pleasant and professional. The lobby was very clean and made a good first impression. The one problem we did have was the fact that we asked for a crib and never received one. They called for one on the radio as we were checking in, so we assumed they had some available. There were quite a few families in our group with children and I believe they must have got the cribs but non the less nobody informed us as to why we didn't get one. Luckily we had brought along a fold away crib for later on in our trip. Enough rambling. The rooms are above average, the suites are really nice (2 stories with a bedroom loft) . The rooms are situated in a sort of resort style with only 8 rooms or so per building , 4 on each level, which helps with any noise problems and the grounds are well kept . The have a nice pool and hot tub area which we enjoyed several times and a couple of BBQ areas you can use if you want. The breakfast buffet was also pretty good compared to many I have experienced. The had decent food with ample seating to enjoy it. They also have evening gatherings during the week, which mostly caters to business travelers, with different menus every night during the week and a BBQ one night. There is also free beer on tap. So if I ever had to stay in San Mateo again I would not hesitate to stay here again.
