“Used to be able to eat lunch in about one hour - what happened?”
Reviewed 15 August 2012

This used to be one of our favorite restaurants to eat lunch. It's close to the Civic Center and has a lovely outside Patio.
The last two times we went there lunch took about 1 hour and 45 minutes. The personnel was running around, barely able to give you any service, almost throwing things in front of you, yet it took forever to get the food and even longer to get the bill.
The food is good and consistent, but it takes way to long and the Lady now working the lunch shift is not very pleasant. The service used to be much better and it will be a long time before we go back.

“Way past prime”
Reviewed 2 February 2012

This place was popular with Marin County government muckity-mucks in the 70s and 80s because it was close to the Civic Center and had a full bar. The food then wasn't all that bad either. Now, however, in my experience, it is utterly forgettable with pedestrian recipes, slackly prepared.

High quality Basque/French food at a great price. Full bar is fun. These guys support the Mountain Play...so, they have my eternal loyalty.

“Everything was good”
Reviewed 17 November 2011

In a group of eight people everyone ordered something different and all were pleased with what they got. A bit upscale for a Basque restaurant and not inexpensive. Located in a largely residential area. Adequate parking.

“Great Amibance, home style food”
Reviewed 16 September 2011

A bit off the beaten track, but accessible, Le Chalet Basque Restaurant is a great departure from traditional cuisine. For the most part it is a set menu of the day with some variations, though they do have an ala carte menu. Our hostess was very knowledgeable about the dishes of the day, and could recommend with confidence the different options. The full course dinner had a hearty soup, salad and delicious and unique entree, and finished with a traditional Basque dessert. The interesting combinations of seafood and meat all cooked in traditional Basque style was very satisfying. The setting is in a rustic dining room with open windows with a view to the patio.
If you want a break from the usual seafood fare or Italian, this is the place. Old Country hospitality and style!
