The Panama Hotel is really unique in so many ways - location (residential street), setting, the way the restaurant is set up, etc. They have wonderful salads as meals, and the fresh fish was wonderful. It's really a cozy corner of a place and it made you feel like you could be in Panama, or some other country for that matter. Really a neat place, and worth finding if you're in the San Rafael area.

“This place always has a 5* rating in my book for deliciously fresh food, but always feel so cozy there too no matter what seaso”

If you want to be in a setting where you almost feel like you could be on your own front porch( summer dining seated in a big wicker chair on their front porch) where you can linger as long as you please .. Or in a sunny patio at any time of the year or in the main dining room which is full of ambience... Then come for amazingly delicious fare at the Panama Hotel. It's a little gem tucked away on a residential street since the first quarter if the 1900's!!

A lovely spot in SR to eat a great lunch or dinner. Food presentation is excellent. High quality without being fussy. Love the stuffed poblano peppers, something you just don't make at home. Great salads, all entrees are well thought out. Indoor or in the enclosed patio, good spot for lunch or dinner

Locals took us to brunch at the charming Panama Hotel, hidden in a residential area of
San Rafael. The food was great; the staff friendly and welcoming! Five out of six of us ordered
omelets and raved about them; the sixth person--me--had pumpkin ravioli, good but too rich. Oh, yes, and as an "appetizer" we ordered their delicious scones! Yummy!
I loved the ambiance of the restaurant and being able to sit outside in November. We were among the last of the diners that Sunday--they close at 2--thus few people in the photos. The sun shone brightly into the courtyard but there were umbrellas to provide shade--and if we wanted --handy Panama hats to wear.

“One of our favorite restaurants”
Reviewed 26 November 2013

On a warm summer afternoon the umbrella shaded patio at the Panama Hotel is a wonderful place to enjoy a leisurely lunch. My husband and I either by ourselves or with friends and family have eaten their many times. The menu is varied but for lunch we usually stick to our favorites. In my husband's case he loves the ceviche which looks as if it had come from a small mold. My two favorites are the avocado with crab salad and the ravioli. Dinner is also excellent and one could never go wrong with Mary's chicken, moist, tender and delicious. The service is also excellent. Inside the restaurant are old photos from the early days of the Panama Hotel. Fun to look at.
