“A Frank Lloyd Wright design”

A Frank Lloyd Wright building! The architecture is spectacular inside and out. Well worth the visit....the building can be seen from Hwy 101 North as one is driving to the Wine Country. A bit of history...a shootout occurred there on August 7, 1970 involving the Soledad Brothers when Jonathan Jackson tried to negotiate their freedom by kidnapping Superior Court Justice, Harold Haley, from the Marin County Courthouse in the Civic Center. Four were shot dead including both Jackson and Haley.

The Marin Veterans Memorial Hall is fairly large, but has a more intimate feel than I expected. The acoustics were excellent (we sat on the far left aisle facing the stage about 2/3 of distance to rear). The performance we attended, The Chieftains, utilized their normal band, as well as a choir, dancers and bagpiper, which the stage accommodated well at various times, including all together at the finale.
My only quibble with the layout of the auditorium is that there is a very long expanse of seating to pass through from one side to the other without a break, and many in the audience had to stand up numerous times to let others through.
I recommend arriving early to park and take your seat, especially if you have one near the middle of the row.

One of the wonders of the world. Ahead of its time. Fits with the county and the environment. Often changing and interesting exhibits.

The outside of the building is very attractive - it's designed in the round - and very well-lit. The inside is nicely appointed and easily traversed. The volunteer ushers are also very helpful.
We loved the performance of Jackie Evanko last night, Nov. 15. We were surprised and a bit amused at the miking of the orchestra ... assumed that it was because of the small number of musicians on stage. For the size of the theater, the sound system seemed a bit weak and it certainly did nothing for the young singer's voice.
Parking was definitely discouraging - we finally parked in a dirt lot across from the venue and hiked to the building ... we weren't alone in our parking quest. Seems if there are 1,000 seats in a theater, the ample parking for its customers!

Had great seats a musical performance. Great acoustics. Parking it a bit of a hassle. Every man/woman for themselves!
