Im writing this while I am still in the hotel (although I am checking out earlier than we had intended), and have to say that this hotel has it's high points and low points,

Firstly, I just want to say that the week day staff are incredibly polite and as helpful as they can possibly be. The staff at breakfast are wonderful, always took time to chat to my children, ask how we were and answered any questions we had. The front desk staff were equally as helpful and responded to any query promptly and helpfully (although didn't appreciate calling the front desk last night to be put on hold for 6 minutes!).

However the hotel does have its low points and one has to be noise. If your staying here Monday - Thursday night then this hotel will have no problem noise wise. Come Friday, Saturday and Sunday your chance of a quiet night are practically zero sorry.

Take last weekend, on Friday night there was a party of around 10 girls celebrating a 9th birthday. While the supervising adult (all 1 of them) sat in the atrium enjoying the free drinks, the girls ran wild round the hotel and pool area (unsupervised!), the had the same freedom on the Saturday morning at breakfast. We attempted to use the pool area but they were so badly behaved we had to leave with our 3 children, the weekend management did nothing (you will see a theme emerging here...). On the Saturday there was a slightly smaller and older group of girls complete with a stereo in the pool area, so we couldn't use it then either. Despite them having wine and being under age, the weekend management did nothing. Sunday - what a joy that was. There was a function at the hotel and it took until 10.30pm for me to tweet embassy suites about the sheer volume of noise in the atrium (one incredibly drunk man hollering "can I get a woop woop" every 3 minutes from 7.00pm really does start to get to you when you are 4 floors up and you can hear it above a
Tv). I had called reception 3 times about this already and it took a tweet to the head office to actually put a stop to this, and the manager on the night was incredibly rude to me when he realised I had sent the tweet.

Also on Sunday night a large group (we we're later to discover 90) medical staff were at the hotel as there is a local nurses strike and they were drafted in to help. You would think that caring for other people would make them a little more considerate, but unfortunately the people who stayed in rooms 453, 401 & 402 felt it entirely appropriate to stand outside our room every morning at 5.00am and shout a conversation about the previous nights work.

As a side note, as I am typing this a room 2 doors along is hammering on their room door and shouting, at 7.30am on a Saturday. Not much chance of a good nights sleep here.

But I haven't got to the worst part yet. Housekeeping. We have stayed here for 2 weeks now and yesterday was the first day our room was actually made up properly, when I say properly I mean the beds were made properly and the covers we use for the sofa bed were replaced for the first time in 2 weeks. We ran out of toilet paper on Thursday, there was no spare roll left in the room and it took until Thursday to have it replaced. I have requested a new set of batteries for the tv control in our room on 6 different occasions, they still haven't been changed. And the TV in the bedroom was dusted for the first time yesterday. It only took 2 weeks. We still have popcorn under the table in the lounge. There is a cupcake wrapper down the side of the sofa on the floor that has been there since we checked in. There were urine stains on the bathroom floor that after 3 days I purchased cleaning fluid to clean myself.

As a side note, this was our "home" for 2 weeks as we have just moved to the area from Scotland. We were hoping to find a hotel that we could tell our friends and family "this is fab, we stayed here when we first arrived tired, exhausted and out of sorts and it was a great place to start" - we have a large family who are all planning to visit us and our children over the next year while we start our exciting new adventure. Sadly the management I have had to deal with last weekend plus the poor, poor housekeeping has really stopped us from being able to do that and has somewhat soured the start of our new life.

We stayed here for two nights for the Sausalito Art Festival and were pleasantly surprised. The room decor is dated but the lobby is neat with the koi ponds and the breakfast was amazing. What a selection! Amazing omlets perfectly done (hate runny omlets). Lots of choices. Room was quiet, spotless and bed was comfortable. We enjoyed how close the location was to all of the sights in Marin County.

Room Tip: Top floor best.

Got to stay here one night (thank you HHonors), and it didn't disappoint. While this EB is slightly older, it still had the warmth you expect from a suite hotel. Also, the breakfast rocked too. This location is good if you're staying north of the city, and wanting to visit places like Santa Rosa and Sausalito.

As other reviewers mention, this is the ideal place if you are attending anything at the Marin County center. There is a bridge from the Embassy Suites parking lot that goes across to the center. The hotel is clean, rooms are spacious, fridge and microwave are very convenient. We were welcomed by the managers reception which was free drinks for 2 hours! Very nice touch. We attended a concert at the Veterans Memorial auditorium at the Marin center. There's really not much else in the area. We tried to order in food but most places were closed by 10pm (it was also a Sunday) so we opted for room service which served until 11pm. It didn't take very long, the food was okay, nothing special.
Not sure about the rest of San Rafeal, but this section of town was very quiet. Would stay again if something brought us to the area. Take the long way from San Fran, keep on the 1 and drive up the coast, it was awesome. Then we drove east through the woods and passed Skywalker Ranch, and all of George Lucas' estates. Bolinas is a great LITTLE town at the bottom of the lagoon, find it if you can on your way North from San Fran. We also stopped at Muir beach, beautiful!

Faced with the (scary) alternative of an SFO airport hotel, we chose to stay instead above San Francisco at the Embassy Suites in San Rafael. Only a 45-minute drive from the airport, this hotel is in a quiet part of town. The two-room suite provided ample space for our family of three, a delicious, above-par hotel breakfast is included (chefs cook your eggs to order!), and there's a well-equipped fitness room and indoor pool. If you plan to travel to SF, this hotel is only 10 minutes away from the Larkspur ferry and the hotel offers a free shuttle to the landing if you don't have a car. Great for families and business-people alike, there was a nice mix of both in the hotel restaurant every morning (which also offers lunch and dinner). We were very pleased with our stay.

Room Tip: Really, any room here will be great - the hotel is on a very quiet side street, so there is no traffic noise, and despite bordering the atrium we didn't hear any noise from it. Beautiful views of the surrounding hills and Mt. Tamalpais from this location.
