“Great place to stop after driving on Highway 1”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 September 2014 via mobile

We stayed for 1 night en route to Santa Barbara. It was a great place to stop after driving along the spectacular coastline of Highway 1. The hotel is walking distance from the beach and about 5 mins drive from Hearst Castle which is a must see. There wasn't much to see in San Simeon but our stay was pleasant and the room we stayed in was light and airy. They appeared to be doing a refurb when we were checking out so I expect the facilities are even nicer now even though we were comfortable enough when we stayed. Breakfast is also across the road at a location restaurant and guests get vouchers towards their meal or a small breakfast paid in full depending on your choice.

We stayed here because we wanted to visit nearby Cambria, but the prices in Cambria were exorbitant. For less than half the price we got a room that was clean, comfortable, convenient, and affordable. The bed was nice and firm and there was a large selection of pillow types. The towels were thick and plentiful and the shower, if small, had great pressure. My only complaint was the shower control requires that the handle stick out so that every time I turned around, I bumped the handle either to the freezing cold setting or the very hot setting. Your room comes with a voucher for a free continental breakfast and the neighboring Cavalier or it can be applied to one of the great breakfasts.

Pros: close to Hearst Castle, very friendly and helpful front desk staff, nice sized and reasonably priced king room (with micro and fridge), short walk to the beach, next door to a good restaurant (The Cavalier at the Best Western), comfortable bed and pillows, nice towels and good water pressure, very quiet.
Cons (in order of "con-ness"): 1. no, zero, zip, nada towel racks in the bathroom. Really? Yes, really. There are two small hooks and that's it. Inexplicable. 2. no fan in the bathroom 3. no light in the entry hall
That said, we'd stay here again.
P.S. We had a second floor room and glad we did because the toilets are the power, jet flush variety and they must be loud on the first floor.

We stayed 2 nights, and we're pleasantly surprised, we weren't expecting great things of it but it was really good, a great position, helpful gentleman on reception, and a good big room, very well presented. There is no restaurant, but eating places are close, and Cambria is just a couple of miles away. We used the breakfast voucher at the hotel next door to get us coffee and juice, packed up the Danish for later and paid for cooked breakfast, and that worked for us.

This was our Big Sur stay and the sea was impressive and the sands by the sea was very convenient for our two night stay , right on the highway and ideal for visiting Hearst Castle , the elephant seals and the interesting village of Cambria which is theCeltic name for Wales . . Rooms were fine and had seen better days but well serviced and clean! We were given a 3 dollar voucher next door at the Best Western, don't bother with their 3 dollar meal in the morning ,use the voucher towards their breakfast.

Stopped in for a night whilst on a road trip visiting Hearst Castle, Rooms were clean and the service was good! At night there were some great bonfires on the beach to sit and enjoy the scenery and chilly ocean breeze. Not much else to do here but it was more than adequate for a nights stay.
Would stay again.

We just stayed overnight at this hotel, hotel is situated in a great location next to restaurants and of course the beach. The hotel offers a heated pool, pool was clean but not kept hot, it was at around 72 degrees or so. We had a double room, the room has Microwave, fridge and coffee maker with TV. I want to say Hotel staff is very helpful and attentive to customers, overall i would stay here again and would recommended it.
