“Great stop over”
Reviewed 15 August 2014

We stayed here as a stop over for our journey to San Francisco it's nice and very quiet. Has a few restaurants near by but don't need it to have much wen it's only a stop over. The pool was nice and the view was amazing. The rooms were very spacious

San Simeon offers hotels right near the beach, that is a positive for all of them here. Overall this hotel was ok. The room was quite large which was a positive. On the negative side, TV was terrible, old and only about 4 channels! Also carpet was fraying at the door and caught every time we went in or out.

Breakfast is not included and hotel was expensive for food. We did not eat there so cannot comment further.

Oh, I have spent many hours enjoying drafting this review in my head (often whilst staying in much nicer hotels on our Southern California road trip)! Where to start?! The sticky carpets, the mouldy rotten smell that pervaded the entire room, the stained sheets, or the pubic hair in the shower drain? Or perhaps the casual racism employed by the (seemingly teenage) front desk staff, where I witnessed a white American family being quoted one price for a room, and another, Asian family quoted 20 dollars more for the same room? And the restaurant, where we ate possibly the worst and most expensive meal of our 3-weeks in the USA? Yes, we could and should have complained, but at 8pm on a Saturday night, when our children just needed food and sleep, we felt trapped. The next morning, we left at first light, feeling like escaped convicts, just relieved to have survived the night!

Room Tip: Check in to another hotel!

Not recommended for extended stay. 80's decor which includes; gold color fixtures, outdated box tv and ugly bathroom. There are a bunch of little hotels across the ocean with much better location but I'm sure they won't be on expedia. Good location and clean for one night stay.

The hotel is ok for a stop on the way. But the breakfast was pricy and horrible. The worst breakfast on our three week trip so far. Nice service though. Hard to find good food in San Simeon in general.

I was looking for an inexpensive hotel near Hearst Castle.
San Simeon Lodge is just that; do not come here expecting more. For one night it is perfect. The hotel offers free parking; there is a heated pool and a restaurant. Our room was spacious and our beds very comfortable, no complaints there. The only issue I had was that there are no A/C in the rooms!! What??!! Yes, no A/C’s… Granted it was a bit chilly outside in the middle of June! But I do not enjoy sleeping with my windows open as the Front Desk employees suggested I did. So they offered to bring me a small electric fan to my room, which I really appreciated.
The hotel is located right on US-1 highway, across from the beach. Our room was facing the beach, but we could not enjoy the view due to heavy fog during our stay. Breakfast is not included, and the prices in the restaurant were too expensive for us. Instead we decided to go to a hotel next door that offered a buffet breakfast for $5.99. Also, there are no elevators. This would be an issue if you have back problems, heavy bags or difficulty walking up stairs. Overall for a one night stay this hotel is ok.

We stayed at San Simeon Lodge the night before we took a tour of Hearst Castle. It's location is perfect for this, as it is just down the road from the Castle entrance off Highway 1. If you're looking for a romantic or quaint area, this is not the place. Choose a place in the town of Cambria for the cute shops and nice restaurants. The only restaurant around the Lodge is the one located right next to the office. We didn't eat there, so I can't comment on the food. The staff was friendly and the room was clean. If you cross the highway, there is beach access. The rooms are outdated, but the price was nice.

Room Tip: Even rooms that face the highway are far enough off the road that it's not a problem.
