We stayed here for 1 night during our road trip up the California Coast. The room was okay for what we needed which was just somewhere to crash for the night before Big Sur the next day. We arrived at 10PM and left the next day at 10AM. The location is good in that it is the closest spot to stay for CHEAP before Big Sur and it's right off Highway 1. There are a few restaurants around and Hearst Castle is 5 mins away but that is about it for the area- I wouldn't stay in this area if you were hoping to do anything other than eat and sleep. They had a breakfast that was an extra fee but we decided to go across the street to the Best Western and it was pretty good. If you are just looking for a place to crash and don't want to spend any money, this is your place. I would definitely stay here again.

We stopped here for just 1 night as we we're making our way down the coast on a 2 week trip.
It was okay but it wasn't great. Reception staff weren't necessarily rude but they didn't make you feel welcome. Whilst our room was very big it was also very tired looking. It was dark and gloomy and the bed sheets and pillows really need replacing.
It wasn't a room you could relax in. You just wanted to get some sleep and then move on. We drove down to the next little town to watch the sunset and grab dinner at the Moonstone Bar and Grill (fantastic atmosphere and food there!). We then slept at the motel and quickly left in the morning.

With a bit of modernising it would be much better.

Our room was very standard with a king bed and 2 windows to see the ocean. The room was very clean and spacious. The shower room was a bit small. However, the vanity was not part of shower room so it all worked out fine. The TV was blurry, but we didn't watch it too much. The pool and spa were very nice for relaxing. They are in a large room with windows and sky lights to give the room plenty of sunshine. The spa could have been 104 degrees like most. We still enjoyed it. We walked to The Manta Rey for dinner. We had a very nice stay. Our check in person was very nice and accommodating. The lady in the morning was not so friendly when we asked for more regular coffee for the room since there was no continental breakfast. However, we plan to return and look forward to another relaxing stay.

Room Tip: Room 241 probably has the best view in the hotel.

My original review:“Good value, clean and comfortable”
Reviewed December 31, 2013
I was a bit worried about this reservation. I reserved with Otel, and had never heard of them before - but I checked with the hotel directly and they said Otel was authentic. Otel's rate was much lower than the other reservation portals.
About the hotel. We did not have breakfast, but the place was clean and comfortable. The other reviewers warned about slow WiFi, and they were right. Really, the WiFi is overloaded and internet is not available with the hotel. We had not tried to stream a movie, just check e-mail or a map. No luck on that.
Other than disappointing internet, the hotel was good. The walls are a bit thin, but things quieted down about midnight on the first night, and 11pm the second night. Great location -
very close to Hearst Castle.
Our room even had an ocean view.
UPDATE: About two months after our stay, they billed my credit card again. I spent about an hour on the phone trying to get them to reverse the charge, they insisted they had no idea why I was disputing the charge. I got the credit card company involved and after about a month, my credit card was credited.

The best thing about staying here was the price 64.00 for a Friday night. Service was ok, room was good size but was dirty with stains along the baseboard and moldings. If you get a good deal its worth it for a night but don't expect much.

San Simeon is full of pricey 'inns' next to the ocean. For half the price you can stay one block away, in a strip just off Highway 1. The Courtesy Inn is one of several AAA approved motels here, along with a couple of cafés/restaurants. It's an older, privately run place, with fairly decent clean rooms and adequate room amenities, plus an indoor swimming pool. Parking was easy and there are a number of bays dedicated to blue badge holders, right outside specially adapted rooms. Our king bed was comfortable and the WiFi service was very good, though not so much the TV picture. Plumbing is a bit dated and the bathroom fan sounded like the Tardis, but generally we felt we had a very good deal for this much-travelled and generally expensive scenic road route.
