“Best Value for $ in Greater San Diego Area”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 October 2011

This was just turned into a Knights Inn so you can ignore the older negative posts. There are still negatives, but the value and staff far outweigh them. The rooms are older and the furniture is outdated (at least in the smoking rooms). There is gang grafitti (or just grafitti) on the inside of some drawers and inconspicuous places inside the rooms. There is only pizza delivery in the area and its not good. No, or minimal breakfast (probably some fruit and energy bar kind of thing) but since there is really no breakfast area I didnt bother.

On the positive side, the grounds are immaculate, pool is very nice, bed is comfortable, internet is blazing 10 MBPS fast, there are two washers and dryers, and the entire motel is surrounded by a fence. As for the area being bad, I have stayed there twice, 4 days each stay (thu-mon), and have observed nothing that would indicate that illegal activiity was occurring inside or around the motel. There is a gas station/convenience store across the street which I have walked to all hours of the day and night and have seen no undesireables hanging out in the area. I would recommend the hotel to budget consious families and women traveling alone.

You will not find a lower priced motel in the greater San Diego area (if you book online through Wyndham) that compares to this Knights Inn. If you want to go shopping or across the border its about a 1/2 mile walk southeast. Tons of restaurants, outlet shopping etc.

I was very impressed with the service. The owner is very kind and helpful to tourists. The maid staff was incredible! It was clean and quiet. I booked thru Expedia and next time I visit I will call and book with Economy Inn directly! Very close to Mexico and Sea World too!!

Our room was not very clean. There was hair in the bath tub, the rooms had a funny smell to it and there was mold in the tub. When we walked on the floor the bottom of our feet turned black. We talked to the front desk and he showed us 3 more rooms that had the same problems with them. Not a good place for people with familys. We seen BAD things going on in the area. The breakfest was coffee and little muffins thats all.

I have stayed on a few hotels and motels near the Tijuana border and this is the best value and extremely clean.

Watching TV, sitting in bed, something tickling my leg. Hmmm, maybe a loose thread on my shorts. Look under the sheets... An earwig about half an inch long is right there wiggling around!

The good points of the Economy Inn are:
- Free wifi which works well
- Cheap rooms
- Free parking out front
- Clean (other than the earwig)

The downsides of the Economy Inn are:
- It's about a half-hour walk to the trolley stop and then about an hour into San Diego, quite a long journey. I ended up driving and paying for parking in the city instead (there are carparks for about $10 per day).
- The walls are really thin: I could hear when other people had the TV on, when they were talking, when they turned on the shower, when they had trouble switching from bath-tap to shower-head, and when anyone was walking around in the room above mine. The hotel didn't seem busy so it would have been a good idea to space the guests out with empty rooms between, rather than put them all next-door to each other.

I'd recommend it as an overnight stop or as a base to visit San Diego if you have a car. San Ysidro has some fast-food places, lots of gas stations, and lots of money changers, it's a place to spend as little time as possible. If you are planning to use it as a base to visit San Diego, I'd recommend eating in the city before returning to the hotel.

I really enjoyed my stay at this motel after a long, rain-drenched ride from Kern County, California. It was clean and well-tended, and I got my room for less than $40, tax included. There was a nice tub for a relaxing soak after a long trip. Ask at the desk for the nearby Denny's restaurant, which served a really good and inexpensive meal (and I am not one that is particularly fond of chain restaurants). The TV had a whole range of channels. My only problem was hearing the very faint sound of a neighbor TV during the night, which I'm sure I could have remedied with call to the front desk, but it really didn't bother me that much.

Well you get what you pay for....and with a name like Economy Inn, thats what you get hehe. I was tired from a long drive, and jumped on Essentravel.com, mapped out the nearest hotel and got this one. Rooms were a bit dirty, and the walls were thing, but I always bring my earplugs....always!! And I managed to get a good nights sleep.
