The staff at the Simpson is very helpful and friendly. They met us right at our car and offered to help. They saved us a plate of hors 'd oeurves because we checked in a little late bringing all the wine they offered in the afternoon. Great printed brochures waiting to inform you of the ways to see Santa Barbara. Inn is at a perfect location for taking advantage of the town.

Maybe I'm a spoiled hotel brat, but the room was a little funky. We booked the Weathervane and the shape of the ceiling cut into the space. Overall it was a little tight. Bathroom had a shower only and not much room for sharing. Walls were thin as we listened to the TV next door to late in the evening.

The Simpson House Inn in Santa Barbara, Ca. is truly a retreat from our fast-paced world. The house itself is spectacular, one of Santa Barbara's oldest but beautifully restored. The service was equal to the setting, with the fine English-styled gardens and oaks contrasted with the elegant assistance of a smiling and courteous and meticulous staff. We loved our room, the master suite, a second-floor room and deck overlooking an acre of grounds, sprinkled with fountains everywhere. From the authentic 1880s wallpaper to the intricate light fixtures, the house we devine. And there was never a moment when food and drink of the highest quality was not available as part of the evening's room rental. This is probably the best bed and breakfast we've ever visited. We definitely return. Christine and Daryl

We stayed for 2 days in the little house in the garden. Very pretty, very clean and extremely quiet. Perfect sleep. Staff very attentive and pleasant. Main house where breakfast is taken is also quite nice.
Surprisingly quiet, behing its shrubs wall, given that it is within 2 blocks of State street the main shopping area with many interesting restaurants

We stayed in the Hayloft room - clean, comfortable, filled with character and nicely updated bathroom. In 2 nights, we truly felt like we had left the world behind. Great little touches, nice breakfast. Large comfortable bed. Thoughtful lighting and other touches including the decor, seating, pillows etc. We've never been to a nicer b&b.

Not cheap - just terrific.

After many stays in Santa Barbara (usually at the Canary formerly Andalusia) and Bacara, my husband told me about the Simpson House Inn. We visited town during the SBIFF and this location was perfect. The Inn is charming and private and close enough for a very pleasant walk to State Street to enjoy all the restaurants and shopping SB has to offer.

Balcony off of our room was beautiful and breakfast was served for us there in the mornings. The food was just okay - as everything was very pastry oriented and sweet but well done - it was just personal taste.

The bed was VERY comfortable! The room was large and had a nice sitting area but seemed like it crossed a little from period correct to dated with the decor. The couch was a bit of a mess to sit on but the room was very cozy. There is a CD player but bring your own music if you want ANYTHING even vaguely current.

All in all, a charming place to stay and enjoy being in Santa Barbara without being IN all the noice of Santa Barbara.

I stayed here several years ago with a friend, and could not wait to return with my husband. Everything was perfect the first time around - great weather, beautiful room, lovely gardens, and wonderful food. Unfortunately this time things weren't quiet as nice. I would still recommend it, but with some suggestions. Try to come during a warm time of the year, as the gardens and grounds are absolutely gorgeous and deserve to be enjoyed; it is also nice to be able to eat outside on the veranda. Be sure to book one of the larger rooms, as the three smaller rooms upstairs are really not big enough for two people. We could barely move in our room, and there was virtually nowhere to sit. And finally, be sure to keep all paperwork, emails, etc. as you will need these if there are any problems that need to be resolved. I had overpaid on my deposit, and had a bit of a hassle getting a credit when I checked out. Everything turned out fine, but it wasn't a particularly pleasant experience. Having said that, I would still consider staying here in the future. The larger rooms are beautiful, the breakfasts are excellent, and the afternoon wine tasting is superb. The inn itself is in a quiet neighborhood near parks and gardens, but still very close to town. Overall, a good choice.

The majority of our guests have stayed with us before and have as good an experience if not better than the first visit. Of course that is why they return!

If we are able to we offer our guests an alternate room if we sense dissatisfaction. We are sorry that we were unaware of this particular guests dissapointment with the accommodations.
In this instance our guest had made the reservation online and prepaid for the stay. We were able to offer the room at a lower rate on arrival so there was credit due. Our staff have discussed why this was not accomplished as easily as it should have been and it came down to miscommunication.

We are gratified that despite an imperfect stay this guest will give us another opportunity to enjoy a true five diamond experience
