“Beautiful Country Inn”
Reviewed 3 May 2011

The Simpson House is simply ..... first class and beautiful! The rooms, grounds and staff make this a must while in the Santa Barbara area. The locations is perfect - a few blocks from State Street where there's shopping, if you're so inclined, and some wonderful restaurants. Yet, it's far enough away not to be involved in the foot and car traffic.

We visit Santa Barbara yearly while on business but since this trip was short notice, I had difficulty finding accommodations in several of the other places we might normally stay. I came across the Simpson House by accident and so glad I did. We'll definitely make this a destination as often as our visits allow. It's beaufifully appointed and grounds pleasant and inviting. Breakfast is served on the porch or in your room and is a yummy way to start your exploring in the area. The staff is accommodating ... yet not intrusive. You will not be disappointed if you choose this exception Inn in your travels.

My husband and I headed to Santa Barbara mid week for business. This inn was simply marvelous. Upon our arrival, we were given a complimentary room upgrade and a brief tour of the grounds and facilities. The setting is beautiful and conveniently located near State Street. Afternoon treats were delicious and the evening appetizers and wine tasting were excellent. Breakfast didn't disappoint either. We highly recommend the inn.

We stayed three nights at the end of March. The weather was excellent and we enjoyed sitting in the garden, relaxing after a tiring day's sightseeing. We had the Parlor room which was much nicer than the photo on the hotel website. We were happy to be in the main house as the cottages looked a little dark under the trees. The staff were very charming and obliging. The word 'no' did not feature in their vocabulary- but we only made reasonable requests! The quality of the breakfast, afternoon tea and canapes was very good, but there was a little too much emphasis on cooked items, but that's a matter of personal taste. Our room was equipped with everything one could need. The location was quiet yet within easy reach of the places we wanted to visit. It was a joy to see the house so well restored. The place certainly has personality

The staff at the Simpson is very helpful and friendly. They met us right at our car and offered to help. They saved us a plate of hors 'd oeurves because we checked in a little late bringing all the wine they offered in the afternoon. Great printed brochures waiting to inform you of the ways to see Santa Barbara. Inn is at a perfect location for taking advantage of the town.

Maybe I'm a spoiled hotel brat, but the room was a little funky. We booked the Weathervane and the shape of the ceiling cut into the space. Overall it was a little tight. Bathroom had a shower only and not much room for sharing. Walls were thin as we listened to the TV next door to late in the evening.

The Simpson House Inn in Santa Barbara, Ca. is truly a retreat from our fast-paced world. The house itself is spectacular, one of Santa Barbara's oldest but beautifully restored. The service was equal to the setting, with the fine English-styled gardens and oaks contrasted with the elegant assistance of a smiling and courteous and meticulous staff. We loved our room, the master suite, a second-floor room and deck overlooking an acre of grounds, sprinkled with fountains everywhere. From the authentic 1880s wallpaper to the intricate light fixtures, the house we devine. And there was never a moment when food and drink of the highest quality was not available as part of the evening's room rental. This is probably the best bed and breakfast we've ever visited. We definitely return. Christine and Daryl

We stayed for 2 days in the little house in the garden. Very pretty, very clean and extremely quiet. Perfect sleep. Staff very attentive and pleasant. Main house where breakfast is taken is also quite nice.
Surprisingly quiet, behing its shrubs wall, given that it is within 2 blocks of State street the main shopping area with many interesting restaurants

We stayed in the Hayloft room - clean, comfortable, filled with character and nicely updated bathroom. In 2 nights, we truly felt like we had left the world behind. Great little touches, nice breakfast. Large comfortable bed. Thoughtful lighting and other touches including the decor, seating, pillows etc. We've never been to a nicer b&b.

Not cheap - just terrific.
