“The perfect B and B!”
Reviewed 5 January 2014

Staying at the Simpson House was delightful. My husband and I were there for 3 nights with friends, and we all agreed we had made a wonderful choice. First of all, the location is hard to beat; it's in a quiet neighborhood about a 10 minute walk to State Street, the main shopping and restaurant area in Santa Barbara. The amenities couldn't be nicer.....lovely gourmet breakfast served indoors or outdoors, pretty rooms with comfy beds (we stayed in the Robert and Julia Simpson room that had a wrap around deck, and we loved it), wine and appetizers galore from 5:30-6:30 each night, an incredible and helpful staff (kudos to Jillian, Kerry and the two Barbaras) who couldn't have been more delightful, nearby restaurants that serve yummy food, and lots of printed brochures that help you decide what you want to do or where you want to go each day.....a word of caution about the descriptions of the hikes.....we did the Romero Canyon hike and didn't realize it was so long, about 7 miles, so if you choose this one, be sure to be prepared with enough water, sunscreen etc. We weren't, so it became a bit more challenging than we expected. All in all, our 3 days flew by too quickly, and our only regret is that we didn't have enough time to enjoy the beautiful gardens. We hope to make a return visit and keep that in mind as it's a great spot to just take a deep breath and relax. By the way, we don't usually stay in B and B's, but The Simpson House couldn't have been a better first experience.

Room Tip: We really liked the Robert and Julia Simpson room. It's a corner room, sunny and bright, and th...

My wife and I stayed at Simpson House for 3 nights with friends after a long flight. I cannot recommend Simpson House enough. It is one of the best places we have stayed anywhere and is like staying in a private home with a lot of friends. The service is friendly and nothing is a problem. It is a relaxing experience and a lot of fun meeting the other guests. GandKfromOz

When my wife and I returned to the Simpson House in the summer of 2012, we noticed some things that weren't up to par for a 5-star B&B. I'm happy to report that everything is spic 'n' span again. Our room, the Carriage Room, is a wonderfully designed romantic space including a real working fireplace. And the employees, as always, were extremely friendly. If you are looking for a romantic hideaway within walking distance of main street Santa Barbara, this is the place.

My husband and I live in LA and we wanted to take a breather from the traffic and craziness of the city. The Simpson House Inn was the perfect place to go to relax and unwind. There is a serenity that surrounds you the minute you arrive on the property. The gardens are so beautiful and peaceful. Our room was fantastic. The wine and appetizers both nights that we were there were really delicious, and the breakfasts.....we are still dreaming of the food we had for breakfast that we enjoyed on the veranda overlooking the gardens. The service was impeccable and the staff very friendly. We walked to a restaurant on State Street for dinner and enjoyed wandering through the nearby parks. All in all, a great visit!

We've stayed here several times, this time just an overnight on our way up the coast. As always, every element of our stay was flawless. Comfy rooms, delicious vegetarian brecky and evening appetizers. Great service--much of it apparently by invisible elves. We never fail to hit it off with other travelers here and chat well into the evening. A reliable constant.

My girlfriend and I travel to Santa Barbara 3-4 times each year and every time we stay at the Simpson House. It's the most wonderful place. It's so quiet and romantic, the gardens are beautiful and it's really close to great restaurants on State Street. We love it! The staff is awesome and the breakfast always amazing. and free. :)

We stayed at the Simpson Inn on a Thursday night to take advantage of their relatively lower rates on weeknights. The Inn is on a large, very well landscaped lot in a residential area that is a short walk from the heart of the SB shopping, restaurant, and entertainment district. Offstreet parking is provided, and the service is first class in all respects. The wine and food at appetizer/cocktail time and for breakfast were outstanding. The only potential negatives are that some may be a bit turned off by the very Victorian decor, and our bathroom, while private, was not ensuite (granted, we had one the cheapest rooms).
