The Hotel Santa Barbara is a great historic experience. The service and cleanings are excellent; rooms are a little quaint and small (but that's acceptable for a historic hotel) and decorated with a French touch; the breakfast and staff are great; location on mid-State provides walking access to great shopping and dining.
A great stay for business and a quick weekend experience.

Located Right on State Street, this is a great base for exploring Santa Barbara. Park your car with valet ($7) and you don't need it again unless you go out to the wineries. Love the quiet hours! Rooms are clean, bright and comfortable. Helpful staff. Nice continental breakfast included. Quirky elevator so you may find yourself using the stairs. AAA rate is good deal. 4th star is for the location.

This hotel takes you back in time - and that's a good thing. Excellent service at the front desk and the parking valet. Very clean and well maintained older building on State Street, Santa Barbara's main street. Walk everywhere: the fabulous courthouse, the harbor, lots of good restaurants and shops. No disappointments.

Clean, well-maintained room with a spacious bathroom and comfortable bed. All I really require from a hotel, really. And despite the fact that it's located in the middle of the busiest street in downtown Santa Barbara, very quiet. A continental breakfast in the lobby included with the room. All staff friendly and efficient. Small downside: it has an antiquated elevator which requires some instruction for you to use. But this is a minor quibble. The room had all the usual amenities: Wide-screen TV, dressers, closet, iron and ironing board, clock-radio, hypo-allergenic pillows, and the bathroom had plenty of counter-space.

Downsides (minor ones):
Not necessarily a good hotel for families with children unless they have bigger rooms than the one in which I stayed. Small elevator which requires the guest to close the grating once inside may prove difficult for mobility-impaired people. The rooms have no view to speak of: this hotel does not overlook the coast and is too low for a view of the mountains.

Room Tip: You can ask for a room facing away from the street. But there is very little traffic noise on State...

We appreciate your comments and please note that our Queen Rooms are "cozy" in size. Our King Rooms, Junior Suites and Rooms with 2 Queen Beds are larger in size. We are glad that you appreciated the charm of our vintage elevator. We do not promote our views at this Hotel as we are located downtown and views vary. As the Hotel does not have any recreational amenities, we are not a good fit for families seeking a (resort) hotel with a pool & spa. We do promote our excellent and convenient downtown location! Adjacent to restaurants, shopping and near cultural attractions.
We hope to welcome you back soon.

This historic property in the heart of old Santa Barbara is a perfect location to enjoy the town. It is within walking distance of the city pier and Harbor. Is also immediately on the major historic Street in Santa Barbara filled with fantastic restaurants, great shopping and a wonderful experience for people
watching.

Importantly, the hotel has been recently read work and renovated. The rooms are clean, contemporary and well appointed. The front desk staff was very helpful. They offer a simple continental breakfast in the morning which is nice. If you want something quick and more involved walk across the street to Joe's Café. It's been there
since 1926 and serves fantastic food. Recommend heurvos rancheros for breakfast. Their prime rib at night is fantastic.

We've stayed here every winter for the past few years for about two weeks each time in conjunction with the annual film festival. The hotel (a historic property) is VERY well located in downtown Santa Barbara. The rooms are pleasant and quite comfortable and quiet, and the staff is professional, efficient, accomodating and greets you like family. We look forward to returning again and again.

Room Tip: Junior suites a little roomier, a smallish, slow elevator makes lower floors easier. This is a very...
