“Big Thumbs Up!”
Reviewed 3 October 2011

Big thumbs up to the Beach House Inn! We were in Santa Barbara for a wedding and heard almost all of our friends gripe about their own hotels (too loud, expensive, bad service, too small, etc...). We had no complaints whatsoever and we paid less! Gotta love Tripadvisor! Our room had been nicely rehabbed and was extremely clean. Room had room for a desk, a couple nice chairs, and a small kitchen area (fridge, microwave, cabinets). No breakfast, but freshly brewed coffee at the front in addition to the make it yourself coffee in the room. We would definitely return.

This small, private, former garden apartment, remodeled into a pet friendly motel is darling, convenient and reasonable! It's updated kitchen and bath are clean, comfortable and relaxing! There was no sign of a pet having been in our room - fresh smelling and no stains, yet pets were present on the property - relaxing on the grass while owners read or relaxed in bright colored patio chairs. I'll be back each time I travel to Santa Barbara!

Room Tip: Visitors with extended stays can utilize one of two larger suites and feel right at home!

Four of us needed a place to spend the night in Santa Barbara after visiting Lotusland. We checked out a few that cost between $149 and $239 for boring hotel rooms. We drove around the corner and spied this place. Yellow with pink doors and tons of plastic Adirondeck chairs, patio tables and chairs on the lawn area courtyard. We were shown an APARTMENT decorated in 50's fabrics, King sized bed, two fireplaces, two TV's, hidabed in the living room and a full kitchen and dining area...all this for $126!!! We took it immediately. The people were sweet and friendly,,,,gave us four videos to watch....tea and coffee provided, etc. We sat outside and drank our wine, had appetizers and watched the sunset and then walked a five minute walk to State Street to have dinner at the Fish Emporium. This place is dog friendly too! Would go here again in a heartbeat. Good value, fun place, roomy and REAL!!

Room Tip: Check out six and three. Six is the big apartment with full kitchen!!

Best deal we could find in town on short notice. Three friends and I arrived on our roadtrip through Cali in Santa Barbara on Friday before Labour Day weekend. All motels were either overpriced or full, but we luckily found the Beach House Inn. The staff is very very helpful and super friendly. The room was very spacious and the price was a really good deal. Location is perfect, close to the beach and the main street (bars, clubs, shops) is not far away either.

All in all, this place totally exceeded our expectations and was the best Inn on our trip through California up to now!

If we ever come back to SB, we will surely stay in the wonderful Beach House.

Thanks, Beach House Inn :-)

2 friends of mine and I were on a trip through California when we hit Santa Barbara and decided to stay in the Beach House Inn. Before that we had a terrible night in Santa Maria where we would never stop again on a trip.
As mentioned in other reviews the owners are very kind and helpful. It made us feel like staying in a B&B what felt like heaven after Santa Maria.
They thaught us everything we had to know about SB before we headed out to explore on our own.
It's a short walk (prlly 5min.) to get to the shuttle that takes you for 25cent downtown and even at nighttime when the shuttle's not driving anymore it takes you about 20 minutes to walk.
We would come back any time to meet the "Beach House Inn-Family" again and there's no other place in SB that makes you feel like actually beeing in SB as this place.

For the price we paid, this place was definitely not worth it. I guess being that this is peak tourist season and we were traveling with a dog, I can't complain too much.

Pros: Reasonably clean and neat property and rooms. Not very specious but not cramped either. Coffee maker w coffee, microwave and refrigerator make it convenient for family with kids. Owners are helpful, friendly and nice. That to me is a big pro. Location is convenient but not the best you can get...there are many that are better.

Now the cons: Room had no privacy...all the windows are around walkways and there are always people walking by so we had to keep the curtains closed. I hated that. No light blocking shade on the blinds in the family room so it was bright in the morning when I wanted it dark. The beds are terrible. Our king size mattress was convex and I was practically rolling off the bed and had to keep re-positioning myself while sleeping. The twin bed in the other room was squeaky and sloping too. This place needs to invest in some new mattresses. The bedding was cheap and "motel like". We paid over 260 a night for this hotel so it was disappointing. Cheap plastic chairs on the cute front lawn/garden are a turnoff as well. The hotel was advertised as having premium cable but anything above basic cable channels had no sound.
So all in all..I would not stay here again. I also would not recommend it to anybody unless they dropped the price or upgraded the room quality.

We have been going to The Beach House Inn since 1968 as a family, it was a tradition. We hadn't been for a while and were delighted to find that it has been thoroughly refurbished since the last time we were there. The rooms and marvelous! Ours had a kitchen, fully equipped with microwave, coffee maker, toaster and stove, and a lovely fireplace. Artwork on the walls completed the beautiful ambience. There is a mere 3 block walk to the beach and we had a great time walking down to the pier and also to the breakfront with ease. The management was so friendly and provided coffee each morning as an extra touch. There is a courtyard that is so inviting and we spent our evenings there. All in all, I would highly recommend this as a destination in Santa Barbara, California.
