Motel 6 Santa Barbara - State Street

I am fully aware of the not so stellar ratings and reviews but proceeded to book with this establishment solely because other hotels in this area (near the harbor area anyway) mostly require a minimum 2 nights stay on a weekend during summer season. My group needed to be staying close to the harbor as we had to wake up really early next day for a kayak trip departing from Santa Barbara harbor and we only needed one night stay. I didn't have much options then other places were more expensive or sold out anyway.

The place is average, clean at the very least, normal facilities. it was expensive for a motel 6 but not so much when compared to nearby accommodation options. One of the rooms had a musky odour from the heater/air conditioner so we had to make do without it to avoid the smell.

Overall, I'm ok with this since I'm not a fussy traveller and just needed clean sheets and fresh towels and thank goodness I could find a place here without the 2 nights minimum requirement.

My first impression of our room was not great. There were two burn holes in the comforter and another one in a built-in faux leather sofa chair. There was no carpet, which seemed odd but came in handy if we tracked in sand from the beach. Don't stay here if you expect privacy; the bathroom door is basically a flimsy closet door and the sink is in the same area as the tub and toilet. My biggest complaint is that I got out of the bed once and a bug crawled out from under a pillow. I'm not sure I would stay here again but the price was right for such an expensive area, so that's one selling point.

We lived on the first floor. That was poor, but some friends of our lived got a room on the ground level, and they could not stay there because of humidity, so they moved to another place. Staff was not very friendly at first. It got better.

Room Tip: Do NOT, NEVER, EVER live on the ground floor.

Had a first floor double room which was very small with no storage space. There's a half table under the TV with two chairs and in the bathroom are two shelves and two coat racks with hangers. The beds were a little hard but didn't wake up with a backache. We didn't even use the luggage rack for our carry-on because we needed room to walk. It was smaller than a college dorm! But on the plus, it was clean and everything worked well. The only reason why we chose this place is because it was the only motel that allowed a one night stay on the weekend while others wanted a two night minimum. Although it's the cheapest and pets are free, we probably would not return.

Spend a night on Motel 6, State Street again. Have been there before and will definitely come back. It's just a nice experience - everything works, is clean, the lady at the reception is so welcoming, gives you all the right information in a quick and polite manner, and at the same time makes you feel you're a special guest to her. I know this is "only" a motel - most people pass by and for many of us, it's just a bed for the night. But finding such a well functioning and welcoming bed for the night is a rare experience.
Go for Motel 6, State Street if you want a stay at a reasonable price.

Passed through Santa Barbara 11-2-2013 (Halloween weekend) and tried to get a Hotel, but everything was sold out.
Stopped by at the Motel 6 (not necessarily my first choice) and they had one room left, so I took it... And guess what... The room was niiiiice. Newly renovated with hardwood floor, nice clean bathroom and also the Lady at the front desk was super nice.
Best of all, there was no drama at all at night.
The management there does a very good job ! Carry on

People need to rate this Motel based on it being a Motel 6, not the Ritz-Carlton. This property has obviously had some recent updates done to the rooms. The property and room were clean. Rooms are on the smaller side, so instead of running the air all night, we just ran the fan and that worked out perfect, it kept the air circulating. The bathroom was a nice size. Beds were comfortable, had no problem sleeping! The front desk was very friendly when we checked-in, they even let us check-in early without any hassle. Motel 6 keeps everything basic in order to provide the affordable price they provide. Obviously some Motel 6's are nicer than others, this one was definitely nice and clean! I would definitely stay here again.
