The Franciscan Inn offers a charming setting that is well maintained, comfortable and also reasonably priced. The staff was most accommodating and the continental breakfast was a perfect start to a wonderful day in Santa Barbara. Happy I found this hotel! It will be my hotel of choice on my next visit to Santa Barbara.

This exceptionally well-maintained one- and two-story motel is located a couple of blocks from the beach on a tree-lined street in a pleasant apartment neighborhood. The architecture is charming, old Santa Barbara. Even its landscaping is impressively maintained with lovely potted plants and vines that enhance but don't envelop the covered walkways. The only negative was it is an older building -- the king room was small and we could hear neighbors when they slammed their door. But the neighbors figured it out fast and the room size wasn't a problem for us.

We have travelled Route #66 from Chicago to Santa Monica and this was the best hotel we have stayed in. The people go out of there way to help suggesting places to see and eat. The rooms are big and bright and clean. The pool and hot tub were inviting and you meet most of the guest. Our breakfast was quite good and the serve was great. We ended up staying 2 nights instead of 1. Would recommend this Inn to any traveller if ever in Santa Barbara area would only stay here.

All of the out of town guest for my son's wedding stayed here, and every one of them made comments about how pleased they were with the Franciscan. The rooms were nicely appointed and very clean, the staff was extremely accommodating, the location is perfect for a quick walk to the ocean, and the continental breakfast was great (and so were the servers). Evenings by the pool or in the spa were wonderful for our family reunion. My son's wedding was made more memorable by the staff and facilities of the Franciscan. We plan on many trips back in future years. I would not stay anywhere else in Santa Barbara.

We stayed here for one night on a trip down the coast. It is a very attractive place, and easy to find. We had a family suite, but it was very cramped for 4 people, and the sofa bed was not very comfortable. The location was very good, only a few minutes from the sea, and a nice walk to the main shopping area.

Breakfast was served in the reception area, but it was not self-service - we were just handed items by a rather unfriendly lady and it was not a very welcoming experience. There was a swimming pool, but we did not use it as it had been taken over by a large group and there was no space!

My main criticism would be value for money - we felt it was very expensive for what we got.
