Description: Surprised not to see this on your web site - many people (myself included) consider it the best Mexican Food in Santa Barbara. Service also excellent, at least when they are not crowded, which the often are! Just down the street from another outstanding (but simpler) Mexican Restaurant, La Super-Rica Taqueria.

While in Santa Barbara for vacation we took a flyer on this place...if you can get past parking issues and a line out the door, you're in for the good stuff. I don't even know where to start. My shrimp tacos were out of this world; their salsas were wonderful.

They have bottled beers and some other alcoholic beverage offerings but I didn't imbibe.

Again- the line can be long and the parking is very limited, but once inside you'll be glad you stuck it out.

This restaurant can be crazy busy because it serves Mexican food that has real flavor, not just the flavor of black beans or meat. This was my second visit on a late Wednesday afternoon so not as crowded. i am vegetarian and could not really figure out from the menu which items could be made without meat but the staff took the time to offer several suggestions. i ordered the taco salad with chips and guacamole. The food was delivered to me very quickly (you place your order at the counter and pay before finding a table). Be sure to pick up your drinks and napkins, etc. also before you sit down.
The taco salad was filled with grilled vegetables, rice, beans, lettuce and melty cheese with a side of dressing. As i delved deeper into the salad, the flavors changed with each layer; I was a happy eater! The chips were standard but the guac was excellent. Servings are large, service is responsive if you need something and the food is very very good.. Go hungry and enjoy!

We are visiting for vacation and decided to try a local restaurant, read the reviews and decided to go, the reviews were right on the spot, the food is delicious, is not the typical mexican food you would try on a regular mexican restaurant, it is gourmet mexican food but still with it's 100% touch of mexican food and the salsas are amazingly tasty.

It's where you can end up if the line at the Super Rica is too long. You won't be disappointed, however, beware of the man standing at the counter who is there to "help you order." He is a very good sales man and when he jokes about how everything is delicious and just order it, he isn't kidding, but he also isn't paying! Don't get me wrong, everything we ordered was delicious, however, it would have been nice if he was a bit more forthcoming about the size of the orders so we didn't waste as much food. I ordered the special stuffed zucchini flower, and thanks to his suggestion, ordered a full order, only to see when it arrived, it was certainly not appetizer size. This was meal in itself! In combination with my wet burrito, that was already quite huge, my friend's main course, and his appetizer of ceviche (another app that is the size of a main) we had soooooo much food that even the servers delivering it to our tables were a bit in shock as they tried to find room on our table. Sure, you can box anything up and take it home, but as a tourist in a hotel, this doesn't really work well. The place is good, very fresh, well cooked, flavorful, the condiment bar has good choices, the special Mexican coffee quite tasty, just beware of the snake oil salesman upfront and order conservatively. Mexican tastes best when it is freshly prepared vs. reheat later on....IMHO.

The restaurant is off the main shopping/dining area in Santa Barbara and you really need to know it, but it is worth a detour! Excellent food and very friendly staff. You cannot make a reservation. You order at the counter and then get assigned a table. So it is very informal, busy, chaotic and not the right place if you are looking for a romatic dinner. But if you are looking for afordable tasty food, quick service, then I can recommend this place.
