“Great Hotel!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 May 2014

Polly and I chose The Spanish Garden Inn to end our 2nd Californian adventure based on trip advisor reviews. We stayed for 3 nights and weren't disappointed!

We were checked in by 2 helpful ladies who showed us to our room and took time to explain how the tv/cable and aircon worked. Throughout our stay we were greeted by friendly attentive staff who were always keen to help and seemed genuinely interested in making our stay pleasant.

We had chosen a junior suite and it was immaculately clean and well presented. The bed was comfortable and the furnishings of lovely quality. We were looking to have some restful time before flying home and the hotel certainly provided it. Our room had a balcony overlooking the pool which we found cool and confortable.

We would both agree that the hotel deserves its #1 status in Santa Barbara. We were made to feel welcome into luxurious surroundings. We would definately return and recommend to all!

I stayed here for 2 nights in early May 2014 and wish I could have stayed longer. Spanish Garden Inn gets what a boutique hotel experience should be. Charming architecture and rooms, beautiful common areas, fantastic staff, and a great complimentary breakfast spread. Absolute perfection. It is located in a quiet neighborhood within walking distance to the restaurants and shops on State Street as well as the surrounding side streets. Being a beach girl I thought I would miss not being right on the beach, but I surprisingly thoroughly enjoyed it here and would not have had it another way.

The room was very spacious as well as the bathroom. Water pressure in the shower was great. There is a separate shower from the tub. Molton Brown toiletries are provided.

This is a great place to relax and unwind... in your room... in your room's patio... in the courtyard... or by the pool. Just a very chill type of place. I told my hubby (who did not come with me on this trip) that "My soul is so relaxed from being at SGI!" :-)

There is no restaurant on site, but they do offer some light fare in the evenings. I ordered a tomato soup, and cheese/fruits/crackers platter, and a glass of wine on my first night delivered to my room (too much food for one person actually). Everything was tasty and reasonably priced.

The front desk staff were warm and friendly and you can tell they truly enjoyed working here. They were spot on with recommendations on places to visit or eat, and with directions to these places.

I have not stopped talking about SGI since I got back home. Not much has drawn me back to the SoCal area since I left, but SGI has certainly changed that. I will definitely be back for a longer stay next time, with my hubby so he too can experience what a special place SGI is!

I also love the fact that they support the local food bank. Please don't forget to add a small donation to your room rate which SGI matches. Win-win!

One thing that can be improved is the internet connection. The wifi was slooooow. So keep that in mind if you need to do work, or if high speed internet is important to you.

Pigsterz,

Thank you for this unbelievably gracious review. It was so nice of you to encourage others to join in the Foodbank donation. To date we have, thanks to our guests generosity and our 1:1 match, given over $4500 to the Foodbank. It's not a lot but every bit helps and we are proud to be a partner.

We have noticed that demand for internet has increased of late and next week we are tripling our bandwidth. On your next visit I am certain you will notice the improvement.

Thank you again for the kind words.

Sincerely,

Brian Cogswell

We absolutely fell in love with the Spanish Garden Inn and highly recommend it to anyone who appreciates high-quality amenities, wonderful location, comfortable, luxurious rooms and expert service. Everyone we encountered was wonderfully pleasant and extremely helpful. Top-notch all around! We enjoyed the complimentary breakfast and the low-key, peaceful atmosphere around the courtyard and pool area. Truly fantastic! Close to everything! You won't be disappointed! Wonderful staff!

Room Tip: We loved our junior suite that overlooked the pool!

This was a very special hotel. The service was amazing from start to finish. We had a superior king room which was really lovely, the balcony overlooked the (small but adequate) pool. The landscaping and gardens were so pretty and very well maintained. The bedding was luxurious and we slept so well! Molton Brown toiletries were very much appreciated. We loved the homemade cookies offered on arrival, and the breakfast was perfect. It could be eaten inside or outside in the courtyard or on the balcony. Really satisfied with the price/value. If anything could be criticised we could see a builders skip from our balcony but hey this didnt matter at all - we had a really great stay here. Great location to see all the wonderful attractions of this brilliant city.

Karen C,

The trip along highway 1 in California is one of the best drives in the world, rivaling the great ocean road in Australia. Great decision to make that the focus of your trip stateside and thank you for choosing us as your rest-stop in Santa Barbara. Happy to hear that you enjoyed our service and amenities as well as all that the city offers just minutes from our hotel.

We'd love to welcome you back should you decide to visit California again someday.

Sincerely,

The staff at the Spanish Garden Inn are friendly, attentive and go out of their way to be helpful. The hotel was perfect for our needs; wonderful ambiance and landscaping, just the right scale and every amenity we could ever need, plus a few more.
The pool, although not large, is still perfect for anyone wanting to do low - key laps or perhaps running in shallow water. Like the hotel, very well - maintained and never crowded. At 3 1/2 feet deep, the pool is ideal for families and young children.
The location of the Spanish Garden Inn is outstanding for active or outdoor - oriented individuals or anyone that enjoys walking. Great opportunities for walking, running, biking, sightseeing and within a few blocks of State Street, the main street of Santa Barbara. Better still, quiet and peaceful mornings and evenings, very removed from the busy streets and almost one mile from Hwy 101.
Could it be any better than this? Yes! The breakfast is the best we've ever had at any hotel and will power just about anyone (with perhaps the exception of marathoners and other endurance athletes) all the way through lunch!
The Inn was the setting for the wedding festivities for our daughter and she could not have picked a better hotel or staff. We look forward to returning again, and again.

Room Tip: We loved being close to the pool! The view from our balcony was great!

Beautiful grounds; helpful, friendly & accommodating staff; yummy breakfast (included); delicious 3pm cookies!!! and quite possibly the cleanest hotel I have ever stayed at. Great location; 15 min walk to the pier, shorter for shopping and good eats. I want to go back!!!

AC972,

Sometimes I believe that the true secret to our success is those cookies! This review is going on the wall in our Housekeeping office as they are too often under-appreciated in their efforts. Thank you so much for commenting on how clean the rooms and property were.

Come back soon, we will keep a cookie warm for you...

From the first moment we walked into the Spanish Garden we knew were in the right place. Everyone was attentive to our needs, the team was courteous and very helpful. The atmosphere was special along with the courtyard and the rooms were beautiful. Jordan couldn't do enough for us he made certain that we were comfortable and happy. I forgot my Garment bag and Jordan went out of his way to send the bag to my home. We spent ten days in Cali and this place was by far the best place we stayed in, we want to go back just to spend time at the Spanish Garden.
