“Unfussy service, nice attention to detail”

This is a hotel where you get what you pay for.

Very pleasant room (junior suite #8 or 9, I forget) with tea/coffee, minibar, large tv, internet access, large bath, separate shower, molton brown toiletries. Room also had a small, shady pation.

Free car parking under the hotel.

Small fitness room with weights, bike and running machine. Small pool.

Breakfast room service a bit disappointing - runs to 10.30am, ordered at 10.20am and told that they'd "see what was left" - a couple of muffins, quiche, coffee and juice arrived, but 35 minutes later!!

Quiet location, 10 minute stroll to State Street. Easy check in, quick and friendly check out - offered bottled water for our onward journey.

Not flash, not grand, but big, not part of a big chain, but very impressive and peaceful place to stay.

Stayed in #11 a very nice room /Terrace overlooking the pool / great quality king bed slept like a puppy!
Feels more like a private villa than a hotel.
Sweet staff.
Short walk to State street/great shopping.
Just a tiny walk out the back of the Hotel to the little local playhouse and the fantastic Zaytoon Middle Eastern Restaurant.
Pricey but the whole experience was a TEN!

Described as a 'boutique' hotel, this hotel was certainly 'compact & bijou' at 23 rooms. Had nearly got it right but seemed to lack the final touches which would suggest that it was probably operated by staff rather than owner managed. Agree with previous correspondent about the extent of the walk to restaurants ('just four blocks' is a bit of a hike for ladies in high heels !). No offer of assistance with luggage & no lifts (in our part of hotel). Breakfast service a bit indifferent and, although they might like to give the impression of carefully prepared 'luxury' breakfasts, we saw the quiches etc being delivered from the back of a van one afternoon !

Our overall rating of this property fell to neutral or average from "above average" after we left the hotel. During our stay, everything was quite pleasant, with the exception of the desk clerk who did not provide accurate directions to our restaurant Olio e Limone which was much further than stated and required "walking shoes." This dropped the hotel from the excellent to the above average category along with other lapses in service from the front desk on tour questions and research.

As far as the room -- the junior suite was nicely appointed and the location of the hotel -- very close to downtown was fantastic.

My greatest disaapointment in the lack of service came, however, after we left the hotel, when I discovered that I was missing one of my shoes. We called the hotel and politely inquired as to whether anything had been discovered and asked that our call be returned once someone had had the opportunity to look into it. We got the "well I can just the evening clerk and I don't know" but we believed that the message would be appropriately passed on. Two days later, after hearing nothing further from the hotel, we tried again, asked that the person who we spoke with call us back whether or not anything had been located so we would be comfortable that it had at least been addressed. These calls were more than a month ago and we have heard nothing.

Beautiful room clean Spanish mission style boutique hotel with wonderful service. Romantic room with gas fireplace and private garden. Private courtyard on first floor with heated pool was great. Service was caring and attentive. We mentioned to desk clerk the evening before that we were departing at 7am. He offered to bring us breakfast in the morning and delivered a full cart of fruit, cereals, coffee , juice at no charge. Regular morning complimentary breakfast was very good. All the staff freindly.

We were able to get a room here for 4 days over the Labor Day Weekend by reserving a "suite" (room 20) for over $385/night. Thus, I hoped for a spacious room but was disappointed with how small and dark it was. The bathroom also had huge cut-outs in the walls so from the bedroom you could watch the person in the bathtub, and also look into the shower and toilet. No privacy or possibility of one of us being able to sleep in while the other took a shower or bath or got dressed. The lighting in the bathroom was far too dim for shaving or putting on make-up - very annoying. The pool was another let-down - very small - not worthy of swimming even a short lap - though it was warm and some children were enjoying it one day.
All the positives mentioned by others are true - the cleanliness, ammenities, great breakfast, and especially attentive and friendly staff. Best of all was the location - we walked to town every day.
Maybe I'm just clueless about prices in Santa Barbara, but for $385+ I was expecting something more than a small dark room.

If you are looking for a sumptuous hotel with full amenities and a very warm welcome, look no further.

We had a weekend-after-Labor_day trip to Santa Barbara, and were lucky to get a great room facing into the relaxing Spanish-style garden, with its lime trees and fountain. The room was spacious, beautifully decorated and very relaxing. Staff were exceptionally helpful, and the continental breakfast was varied and of a very high quality similar to that at rooms twice the price.

Normally, I try to visit different hotels in an area, but next time we will be certain to book early for the Inn of the Spanish Garden!
