“Worth waiting in line!”
Reviewed 9 July 2014

How can you NOT go? It's basically a little shack. Make sure you check open times, since when I went, there was a sign that it is closed a couple days during the week. You wait in line, place your order, wait for your food to be cooked, prepare your salsas and accompaniments, guard your table, wait for your number to be called, claim your food (multiple little plates since dishes are small), eat your food, and when the pressure from the hoverers to relinquish your table becomes too great, you pass the torch for them to have a similar experience, and in a split second restaurant staff comes over to wipe down your table so it is somewhat fresh for the next guest.

I tried a few of the tacos (grilled pork and the chorizo and cheese). The highlight was the special tamal of the day. I thought the tacos were tasty and very fresh tasting, however, I guess I've been fortunate to have had decent tacos in other places. In terms of the chorizo and cheese, the key is to eat that one first since I felt that as the cheese cooled and hardened, it wasn't as good as it might have been The tamal was insanely good and not something I ever tasted before. I scraped out the last bit of goodness from the corn husk. I also had a horchata. It tasted great with the food and offered a nice contrast of sweet to the spice.

Honor Julia Child and just go. You won't regret it.

“Bloody amazing.”
Reviewed 3 July 2014

A friend who grew up in Santa Barbara recommended this as a MUST DO for the most amazing Mexican food ever, and she was right. Cash only. Long lineups that move fast. Everything made from scratch to order. Worth every second of waiting and lunch for two (huge) with two beers and a watermelon drink (THE BEST) came in at $23, lol. You gotta go!

“Still the best in town”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

I've lived in SB over 25 years and still find Super-Rica capable of providing the most satisfying simple meals. This is not fancy cuisine, just pure, fresh ingredients artfully combined. This is why Julia Child called it her favorite restaurant in Santa Barbara. Go at the off-hour--I recommend 5-5:30--and order at least one of the daily specials. I particularly like the tamales (pescadore or norteno). Get a few things and share. You can eat incredibly well for $10-13--not obscene amounts of food (like Los Agaves)--but just right. The same family has been running this little bungalow of a restaurant forever. Other places come and go here. There's a reason why Super-Rica keeps on ticking.

“Worth the wait!”
Reviewed 28 June 2014 via mobile

You'll find the real hole in the wall by the people lined up outside on the street corner.

You'll wait in line

You'll pay in cash.

And chances are, you'll agree that it was DEFINITELY worth the wait!

“A fun experience and real authentic Mexican good! ”
Reviewed 25 June 2014 via mobile

I loved this! It's got character and is a authentic experience. The queue was out the door and took 30 minutes but it is worth the wait. It's a small shack without anything fancy, but #16 is definitely worth ordering. It was by far the stand out!! The tortillas are the freshest of fresh and melt in your mouth.
