“Nice surroundings,average food”
Reviewed 9 December 2013

Went to Toma on Nov.5th for dinner on advice from Trip Adviser Ratings and from the recommendation of the desk clerk of our motel. The restaurant was very busy that evening and was fortunate I used Open Table web-site for a booking. The decor is very agreeable and the owner did a nice job of welcoming us to the restaurant.Waiter was decent and attended our needs without being intrusive.Grilled Romaine appetizer was over - grilled and the accompanying beans seemed odd as a pairing. The roast chicken was superb according to my wife. The calamari appetizer I had was almost a meal in itself but lacked seasoning that brought out the squid flavor.A smaller portion would have been more than enough if it tasted better. The scallop main was odd in my opinion and the pairing of garlic mashed potato with the seared scallops somehow didn't fit.The accompanying sauce was tasteless and the overly grilled asparagus were tough and bitter.Even the scallops were lacking in flavor and could have used some needed lemon accent.Though not a professional chef, I can and have produced better than this.Based on our experience,if you go out for fine food in Santa Barbara and select a # 1 rated restaurant, it should live up to it's rating.Toma doesn't.

“Excellent restaurant near the beach and its local hotels”
Reviewed 7 December 2013

We were very satisfied with everything about this restaurant on the two evenings we visited recently: the reception, the food and wine, the service and the atmosphere were all very good. We had cioppino, pan-roasted salmon, prime rib, scallops and the signature 'Phyllo crisp' dessert all of which were excellent. This restaurant is deservedly popular.

“Great meal & service!”
Reviewed 7 December 2013

We liked everything about this restaurant. The short ribs are fantastic! It gets busy, so make a reservation. We managed to get a table fairly early on a Sunday night without a reservation and the place quickly filled up after we sat down.

“Great find”
Reviewed 7 December 2013

We booked to go to Toma for our second night in Santa Barbara as it was close to Casa Del Mar where we were staying and it was excellent. So much so we went back the next night - not something we usually do.
Our waiter was brilliant, knowledgeable, helpful and good fun.
The food was everything we wanted, very tasty, well presented what more can I say - perfect.

“Great meal and service”
Reviewed 6 December 2013

They were very busy and we sat at the bar and had great service.
My wife had pasta and I had an inventive and delicious scallop entree.
The place is new and very active and friendly.
