“Carriage and horse tack museum”

Carriage & Western Art Museum

This museum really has more saddles than carriages. You can look at them and follow the evolution of saddle styles over the years. It also has an excellent display of saddles with silver mountings which were probably parade saddles. The entire perimeter of the inside walls is covered with an Edward Borein frieze. The museum has no entry fee, just donations. Hours are limited, so check first. It is small and can be done in an hour.

It's a little known spot in Santa Barbara even for the locals but it's a treasure and an exciting look at the way things were. The collection of saddles and tack, the Ed Borein art work, the old carriages and stage coaches are among the things to see. It's also available for rent for special occasions.

On a rainy day in Dec. we took the kids to this museum and came out 2 1/2 hours later - with great understanding of the Santa Ynez Valley, visions of stage coaches in our heads and lots of ideas about life in the early days.

Located adjacent to the Inn by the Harbor, a great selection of restored carriages and stage coaches.

Huge surprise! We thought it was small but not! This museum is large and fun and had many carriages and western wear, saddles decorationed in silver.
The back room is a design set of a western street scene. We spent a good hour checking out, up close the many different carriages.

All should visit!
