“Exotic Inventory Aplenty, but at a Price”
Reviewed 30 November 2013

At one time, Santa Barbara County growers held a rare stock in trade, orchids that couldn't be found elsewhere. In recent years, importer sand large scale local growers have flooded the market, so that anyone with $10-$20 can find a beautiful orchid at a local retail supermarket. SB Orchid Estate, one of the early hybridizers, doesn't even try to compete with this market. Instead, its orchids range from interesting to the exotic -- things that you can't find elsewhere. The owners have been doing this years and have an interesting story to go with each plant sold. The "Estate" has seen days when its green houses were in better repair -- still. as you wander through its many greenhouses, you can't help but be amazed at the variety (and sometimes price) of the orchids offered for sale. For those interested in plants and gardens, SB Orchid Estate is well worth a visit.

This place is amazing! The sheer variety of orchids is incredible. So much in bloom and its almost December. Just wanted to check the place out and there is no high pressure sales. Mel some folks taking photographs - great for photographers interested in closeups of flowers. Still I ended up buying an early holiday gift for a friend all wrapped up in a basket with moss and ribbon. A must see and must visit for orchid lovers. Also nice walking trails nearby that highlight some of the lovely beach area of Santa Barbara near Goleta.

Right before we came they apparently sold most of their blooming plants. Lots of areas were restricted so very little to see.

“Felt like Spring in Summer!”
Reviewed 10 September 2013

Might wonder where ARE the orchid growers on Orchid Drive as the Estate is a bit off the beaten path, but DO make a stop here. Although spring is the best season for orchids, was surprised to see so many blooms in August! Some areas sectioned off, but plenty to view indoors and outdoors, but watch out for delicate webs and spiders as they are almost invisible!

My knowledge of orchids encompassed maybe seven varieties so it was quite an eye-opener to see so many unusual and exotic orchids! The owners and workers provided helpful growing tips and took the time to drill holes in the barks for mounting orchids.

Hope to attend the International Orchid Show in March at the Earl Warren Showgrounds where many prized orchids will be on display...can't wait for spring!
