“The innkeepers make the place!”
Reviewed 3 December 2013

My husband and I were traveling to Santa Barbara after spending Thanksgiving in Southern California with family. We wanted a convenient location for sightseeing with some ambiance and a view! We got that and a lot more! Depending on when you arrive you will meet one of the two owners either Marie or Debra. Marie typically covers the morning shift and Debra the evening. And whatever your day plans hold you don't want to miss those two times of day. Marie makes a fabulous breakfast which starts with their homemade granola, fresh fruit and yoghurt and ends with either an egg dish, cottage cheese pancakes with Apple compote or stuffed French toast. After a long day of sightseeing Debra offers homemade baked goodies and tea followed a bit later by wine and cheese. The common denominator is their warmth and helpfulness. They will provide recipes (though not for the homemade granola which is a family secret), directions, sightseeing suggestions, history tidbits about SB and much more. We always looked forward to our time with them. If you like a room with a view ask for Susan's Loft which has the feeling of being in an eagle's nest with gorgeous mountain views. There is also a Franklin stove and a jacuzzi tub! The bed was amazingly comfortable too. The room below ours was much bigger with a full kitchen and multiple rooms. We will be back on our own or with others and will look forward to seeing Marie and Debra again!

Room Tip: Couples who want a cozy romantic experience should ask for Susan's Loft. It costs a little more...

My husband and I were looking for a quaint B&B which was located not too far from State Street. We've stayed in several different B&Bs in Santa Barbara, but this one is now our new favorite place to stay. When we arrived, Deb told us that there was a problem with one of the handles to the shower in the room we were going to stay in; but she told us that she would gladly upgrade us to any room of our choosing. We got a nice tour of the Summer House and chose to stay in the Country Suite. We loved our room. It was actually a bit bigger than we needed (it had a kitchen). The breakfasts were beyond yummy and we thoroughly enjoyed the wine, cheese and sweets that awaited us at the end of the day. My husband and I sat in the rockers on the front porch on both evenings enjoying the beautiful little garden up front.

I'm pretty picky when it comes to staying in hotels and B&Bs, and this one totally made the cut! To top it off...one of the owners is a fellow Gaucho so that was an extra treat! =D

We loved this bed and breakfast! Our time was short in Santa Barbara - we arrived just after 7pm and left the next morning around 9am - but we felt so welcomed and comfortable. Coming in to to a beautiful homemade chocolate cake in the parlor won the way to my husband's heart, and the bountiful hot tea was great for my sore throat.

The breakfast was delicious and the personal care that went into it was great too! homemade granola and freshly baked cornbread rolls with strata is hard to beat.

Room was small but cozy - plenty of space for our short trip.

The Bath Street Inn was a delightful accommodation. The Inn Keepers were friendly and attentive, the food was ample and delicious, and the location of the Inn made walking to restaurants and attractions easy. For service, comfort, and friendliness, I would highly recommend the Bath Street Inn.

Room Tip: We had the garden room: Jacuzzi, private entrance and parking space. Terrific!

We have stayed at the Bath Street Inn several times and every stay is just as delightful as the first. In our travels, we prefer to stay in B&Bs and Bath Street Inn is at the top of our list. Bath Street Inn is our favorite place to stay when we visit Santa Barbara.

The gourmet breakfasts, the afternoon tea and the wine and cheese hour are definitely not conducive to weight loss, but it is worth every single calorie.

We feel we are part of Deborah's, Marie's and Vicki's family.

Room Tip: Abigail's is our favorite room.

Our hosts made us feel right at home. They were warm, friendly and very helpful for guiding us to various restaurants and things to see in the area. We stayed in the Tiffany Room on the third floor and found it to be cozy, comfortable and relaxing. The ground were well maintained and the front porch was nice to site, relax and read a book while sipping on a beverage. We enjoyed the decor of the front room and sitting by the fire in the fireplace. Breakfasts were delicious with some flexibility on when we would like to eat. We really enjoyed the serving of several scrumptious desserts, coffee and tea which was left out until morning. The evening wine, selection of crackers and cheese were also very nice to look forward to. If we return to Santa Barbara, the Bath Street Inn is where we would want to stay.

Room Tip: We peeked into several rooms and they all looked inviting. One reason we enjoyed the Tiffany Room w...

We spent our 5yr in SB (fall), and BSI made it a great week of it. Rooms were always in great shape, and even though they don't post specials on the web, like champagne in the room, they will accommodate. Should you do this, I would note to be back at your room early'ish, as they put out the champagne early evening, and their wine bucket does not hold a ton of ice.

The owners and staff are very nice, accommodating, and informative. Assuming one can walk a mile, the location is perfect for a nice walk into town for dinner.

If you are there for wine in SB, I highly recommend getting some local wine, some cheese, and hanging out in the early afternoon under the Wisteria on the patio, for a late lunch/snack to tide you over until dinner. C'est cheese in town has a great selection of cheese and other items to go with it. BSI will supply glasses, plates, and service ware if needed.

The breakfasts are really good and filling for a good portion of the day, and we saw they put a lot of effort into meeting food allergy issues by trying to make something similar to the offered meal if they can. i.e. girl with another family had an allergy to milk I think, which they made almost the same dish without milk. Which was kinda cool, because I would think this would make them feel less left out of what everyone else was eating. I would call this going the extra mile, rather than just offer another item, they make something near enough. I'm not sure this could be done in all cases, but neat to know.

Room Tip: Read the descriptions, they have everything listed. They do have a few King beds, and call if you h...
