Stayed here for one night in late March during Easter weekend. Amazing renovations -- and everything is brand new, but looks typical old California. You can see the attention to detail in the renovations and design. Our bungalow was wonderful-- large rooms and very large bathrooms with all of the amenities one would need. Our room even included a gas fireplace-- nice given that it was a bit cool and rainy. My understanding is that bungalows either include a fireplace or patio--- so choose accordingly if you can depending on the weather. Gorgeous landscaping and views of the ocean from this hotel. Enjoyed a massage in the spa (wonderful) and had cocktails in the lobby lounge (service was a bit slow due to a a busy night) following by a wonderful dinner in the restaurant on site. A wonderful place for a weekend retreat for adults. We will be back!

This is destined to be THE benchmark for Santa Barabra properties in the future. It benefits from a great location and views, but the long awaited renovation is simply stunning !

My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights and the hotel staff could not have more helpful and accomodating . I would highly recommend this place for a long weekend. Very relaxing and beautiful.

The only issue (and bear in mind it was only their first week) was the service in the restuarant which is complete contrast to the rest of the hotel. It was slow to the point of being non existant at times :-). On morning, breakfast took an hour and a half ! great food needs equally good service to match. I am sure this will improve and I would certainly go back

Room Tip: The suites near the central arbor are great but you have a lot of windows with people walking by. Tr...

Dear rs231,

Wow! Thank you for such amazing and thorough details of your visit. Your tips are terrific! I also appreciate your confidence in our ability to improve our service in the restaurant and in fact have already made some adjustments to help this process. I hope you return very soon to our oasis in the Riviera.

Best wishes, Laura

This has to be one of the most beautiful places in the world (and I have been a lot of places!) The gardens are magical and the views are heavenly. The service was very accomplished for a recently opened hotel... Informational and attentive. The only disappointment was the food. It was slow to arrive and not worth the wait but Santa Barbara has a lot of terrific restaurants so this is not a reason avoid this fabulous addition to the O-E properties!!!

El Encanto, Orient Express’ delightful new establishment in Santa Barbara California.
We had tea there just after the opening. What a beautiful place, tucked away in the hills above Santa Barbara, with the most amazing views. We found the staff attentive, without being intrusive and well trained in service excellence! A lot of hard work has gone into ensuring that every guest’s needs are well met . This is hospitality at its best. Well worth discovering this gem, I can highly recommend it. This is even better than the Peninsula Beverly Hills, Montage and Bel Air!

I recently stayed at the newly reopened El Encanto and being back at this fabulous location was wonderful. Even better than i could have imagined, the restored El Encanto is truly beyond my wildest expectations. Upon entering the tastefully appointed lobby and receiving a most gracious welcome from the staff is the vista that just takes your breath away. In the evening there is live music,a fun loving crowd, and fine comfort to sit by the fire, relax and take it all in. Did i mention the artwork? There are some wonderful pieces, be sure to take a good look around! The dining room was lovely and i enjoyed the beautiful china and silver, not to mention a wonderful Bento box for lunch....Afternoon tea was exquisite, they have outdone themselves there! The rooms are divine and the bathrooms most memorable, amazing tub, shower and heated floors and if that isn't enough, the best robe I have had in hotel or spa. Also, if you are looking for a great night's sleep, their beds and linens will get you there. Honestly, this is a destination you do not want to miss while enjoying Santa Barbara!

Last weekend my boyfriend and I stayed at El Encanto for a quick getaway from Los Angeles. I've always loved Santa Barbara, but seeing it from El Encanto really made me fall in love with it once again. Our room was quite spacious and especially the bathroom was amazing. We had dinner at the terrace overlooking the gorgeous view. The food was delicious and we had such a romantic time. I wish the weather was a little better so I could enjoy the sun by the pool, but that's my reason to go back as soon as possible.

Dear bandaloopdr,

I am thrilled to hear that you had a lovely, romantic visit with us last weekend! Hopefully the rainy weather allowed you to stay cozy in your bungalow next to the fireplace! I do look forward to seeing you again when our beautiful Santa Barbara weather allows for some pool side relaxing.
