“Great hotel for medical recovery”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 January 2011

We stayed through December 2010 in one of the 2 floor suites (Hacienda townhouse) for the recuperation of a family member from a major surgery. The hotel has a special "medical rate" for such guests and the value cannot be beat in Santa Barbara. Hotel is across the street from Cottage Hospital and close to doctors' offices. Townhouse had 2 bedrooms upstairs and a nice living room with a pull out sofa. If anyone sleeps on the pull out, however, they should bring an inflatable mattress for comfort. Kitchen was well equipped, which was important, because most of our meals were in-room to control food costs. Staff is very responsive to all requests for supplies and any small maintenance items. Located on a quiet residential street within walking distance of the SantaBarbara Mission, this is an ideal, peaceful location for recuperating patients. You will probably need a car if you stay here, since the hotel is about 4 miles from the beach and a mile from any food store. However, there is bus service (#3 line) in front of the hotel on Bath St to the MTD terminal in town. It is also a 5 block walk to Sola St where you can pick up the 25 cent State Street trolley. Other bus service is available on State and DelaVina. The hotel has a fair restaurant, Las Aves. There is a nice heated pool and hot tub which were very useful during some of the cold, rainy days we had. Wireless internet was spotty in the Hacienda building, but very good at the office. They have a shuttle (on request) to and from the SB airport and Amtrak if you need it. Overall, this hotel is a very nice place to spend an extended stay, particularly for patients of Cottage Hospital. There is a small park with playground a few blocks over on Oak. Cottage Hospital has the Reeves Medical Library…they let you use scanners, copiers, computers, and Wi-Fi.

Front desk helpful, nothing was a problem for them. Used free reception internet and listened to the service they were giving, which was exceptional to all who came in or who called. Clean rooms, used pool(swimmer) for laps, and in November no one in the pool, perfect. Not close to downtown, but quiet area, and only a few minutes drive. Breakfast in the leased out restaurant was good. Overall good experience was very good and fully recommend. Watch out for the parking in Santa Barbara downtown, they watch you by the minute!

Our family booked a 1 bedroom suite and a 2 bedroom suite and were very pleased with both. Very spacious and comfortable. The rooms were clean and the full kitchen was wonderful. The staff was helpful and friendly. The pool was warm and the restaurant was decent. The only thing that we didn't like was the noise level. None of the other guests were that loud but the sound carries through the front door and windows too much. Overall we enjoyed our stay and will most likely be back.

We stayed here for one night, and the most relevant word would be 'adequate'. It was a decent price, was easy to find and had free parking. It also had a reasonable restaurant and pool, along with a small avary. The room wasn't huge, and had a damp smell, although the bed was very comfy. It's also within reasonable walking distance of the main part of town. This is more like a motel than a hotel, but was fine for one night.

We stayed in a huge apartment style room, with 2 bedrooms, sitting room and a kitchenette. Decor was a little dated but quaint. Overall, great value. Lovely swimming pool too. The only downside (and it's a small downside really) is that it's too far to walk to the beach or downtown. But then again everyone drives in USA so perhaps that doesn't matter!

We stayed in the hotel for four days. My room was fine. I didnt plan on staying in there all day. I had family with rooms around the pool, and lounged all day. The staff was none stop cleaning the grounds. Everyone at the front desk was great. The only complaint i have is the pool and hot tub hours.. Needed em open later!! The price is a bit steep for what your getting, but its santa barbara what are people complaing about. .. Last but not least Ivan was the man in The Alves Cafe.. Good food, great staff, and one hell of a mojito!!

My friend and I stayed at this hotel June 25-27, 2010. The hotel is in the middle of a decent neighborhood a few blocks down from State Street (the main drag with many shops, restaurants, bars).

It's an older hotel that hasn't been remodeled in a while. The wallpaper was peeling a tiny bit in a few spots, but it wasn't bad. The upside is that it was clean, quiet and roomy. It also provided one bathrobe and two chairs. The beds were a bit hard. Water pressure in the shower was excellent and the water got really hot, which is how I like it. We ate breakfast at the restaurant one morning and it was fine.

We paid $214/night, which I hear is about the cheapest rate you'll get in Santa Barbara in the summer. If I was willing to spend $300+ per night, I would have opted for a hotel at the beach, but oh well. This hotel was fine if you're looking for a less expensive option.

If you're into wine tasting, check out Cloud Climbers. We had a lot of fun with tour guide Joseph, who was laid back and fun while taking us to 4 wineries and having lunch at a vineyard.

For dinner, Holdren's on State Street was really good. Joe's was great for breakfast.
