Lovely motel. Friendly, helpful staff. Delicious breakfast. The late afternoon cheese and wine were very welcome and all food is nicely presented. The pool and hot tub were a welcome oasis of calm and relaxation. But, and this is a big but, be prepared to walk. The start of the harbour is a good 10 minute walk. Then it's a further 5 minute walk to the pier. And then, if you want to go downtown, it's another 10 minutes. A taxi back from downtown cost us $6 plus tip. Don't discount, it is a great establishment, just be prepared to walk.

Just looked at last review-yes the rooms are old and decor "tired" but exceptionally clean and authentic. This motel has done a good job in balancing the older style of accommodation with what modern travellers expect. They have added little touches like cheese and wine in afternoons for guests to meet if they wish and free bike hire.
Also staff are exceptionally friendly, the place is quiet and comfortable. Very close to beach and other amenities. Well done.

Stayed here is over night on a road trip hotel room very tired. Staff friendly and free parking which is a bonus. Breakfast poor also no breakfast room you have to sit in reception with staff or outside. Free wine late afternoon which was a good touch. Santa Barbara is a lovely place well worth a visit.

This was our first stay in Santa Barbara and we were so impressed. Although quite a small place, you were made to feel instantly welcome by the staff. Everyone was so friendly, and both Liz and Anthony on reception couldn't do enough to help, even organising my husband a day pass for the gym. Wine and cheese in the afternoon is a great idea and the free bike hire was a bonus. Rooms are all you could need and wouldn't hesitate to recommend. Thanks for a great stay!

We loved this place!
From the roadside it looks a bit unappealing: on two floors with the main doors and a little window looking out.
But go inside the quadrangle, as you do to check in and you are in a little oasis. Lawns ( a bit tired because of the water shortage) exotic plants and palm trees, pan tiles on the roof give it an old plantation sort of ambience. Small pool area. Reception and lobby area nice, with free lemonade and fruit, and wine and cheese from 4.30 to 6pm, then milk and cookies for a couple of hours. We tried the wine and cheese-Ok, and pleasant enough.
Our room had a patio door to the veranda, and the door also had a fly net. Nice voile curtains for privacy during the day, and a full curtain kept the light out overnight.
The room was furnished beautifully, sort of old planation style, solid wood table,TV unit, chair bed and bedside tables, soft arm chair. Fridge and keyed safe and flatscreen TV. Nice toiletries in bathroom and FLUFFY towels. Furnishings here a bit tired. Shower was the best weve had this hol.
Continental breakfast was in the lobby area, and was good. Various coffees, cereals, fresh fruit, hard boiled eggs, yoghurt, bread and muffins to toast, Danish type pastries, fruit juice, jams honey, Philly cheese, and peanut butter complete the picture.
All staff friendly, courteous, helpful, and so smiley youd think they actually liked working!
10 mins walk from harbour and beach, along nice treelined roads.
We didn't want to leave!

Room Tip: Those at the end away from the reception are fairly close to a baseball pitch. You wll be able to see...

This is a very comfortable hotel that offers a lot of 'extras' and makes a real effort to please its guests. Free wifi, coffee, cookies, wine and cheese in the afternoons and a decent buffet breakfast. And free bikes to use!
Our room, facing inwards to the garden and pool was very quiet and comfortable.
I think other comments about it needing updating are a bit harsh.
