“Service was GREAT!”
Reviewed 28 December 2013

I would definitely stay here again. The staff is very friendly, welcoming, and helpful-- they truly make you feel glad you chose this hotel. Don't expect the latest in design -- this is obviously an older hotel, but it is clean, tastefully decorated, and well-maintained inside and out. The rooms are spacious. The suite includes a full kitchen (the appliances are a bit dated, but all in working order) and the living space made a nice place to relax. The many outside patios were welcome during the unseasonably-warm 70+ degree Christmas, and others who were more prepared in their packing had swimsuits to enjoy the pool and spa. But the highlight of the stay was the staff and their willingness to make our stay pleasant: Great referrals on good places to eat, great pastries in the free continental breakfast, plus wine and cheese before dinner, cookies and milk after dinner, free DVDs, free internet, free parking. We were VERY satisfied with our stay, and would love to return for another trip!

Granted, price is relative and subjective, and in Southern California you can rack up an expensive hotel room pretty quickly. Brisas del Mar was on the moderate side of hotel prices when we traveled to Santa Barbara in early December, so we booked a room.

My husband and I had a delightful 4-day stay at this hotel. Two places for improvement: the room furnishings and the HVAC. The furniture (e.g., in the living room of our suite) and bathroom fixtures were tired. It was unusually chilly in Santa Barbara during our stay, so we turned on the heat. No mater what we did, it was flaming hot (or nothing at all). Those are the only quibbles I have with this hotel.

It's a motor-style hotel on two levels with doors that open to the outside. The bed was very comfortable and the linens were above-average. The free amenities offered are outstanding: a robust continental breakfast, a fresh fruit bowl all day, complimentary champagne and bottled water in the room, a wine & cheese hour, and warm cookies in the evening. Also, a DVD library and bike rentals are included.

The location is excellent; it's an easy walk to the harbor/waterfront and several nice restaurants. The main drag (State St) and many tourist attractions (e.g., the Mission) are a short drive away.

But the best part about this property is the front desk staff. They are as friendly, accommodating, and helpful as you could possibly hope for. They gladly made recommendations to us, and provided directions and advice. They also upgraded us to a suite without even asking.

I heartily recommend this property.

This is a really fun place to stay. The rooms are old fashioned in decoration, a charming change from the ordinary motel. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful from the desk people to the handyman. They have snacks and wine in the afternoon. The beds are comfortable. Everything works. We absolutely loved it.

All of the nice comments about this hotel are true-the free breakfast, wine and cheese happy hour and baked cookies and milk in the evening. The location is very convenient to the Harbor, Stearns Wharf and State Street. The rooms are clean, a tad bit dated, and the lobby and grounds are attractive with free covered parking. What sets this hotel aside is the helpfulness and pleasant attitude of the staff, which would be hard considering all the tourists they encounter. William and Lily were very nice, but I spent the most time with Pam and she is efficient, pleasant, and extremely helpful and accommodating. Kudos to the person that hired this terrific staff!

This hotel has excellent staff - everything seems to have been carefully considered, and check-in, check-out, the (excellent complementary) breakfast, the guide to the local area and its restaurants etc. were as good as it gets. The location was also great - a short walk to the beach and the marina in one direction , and walkable to the centre of town in the other. The rooms were old fashioned but clean and comfortable, but the TV was fine and there was a fridge containing a complementary bottle of American champagne when we arrived. We sampled the wine and cheese which is provided free every afternoon.
There were a couple of minor downsides: as all over Santa Barbara, there were vagrants nearby which might make some people nervous walking the streets at night (but they didn't hassle us) and there was some noise from the nearby Highway 101. I don't know if the fact that we were on the top floor influenced this but the noise was greatly reduced when I mastered closing the slatted glass windows behind the shutters. This hotel will certainly be top of my list of places to stay when we come back to Santa Barbara.

No negatives so let me list all the positives...

Travelling with two kids we had ...

A full fridge and kitchen , a sitting area to eat, fantastic comfortable beds, lounge area and a sofa bed ( did not sleep on that great for kids) and the inn offers the following
Complimentary continental breakfast and a lovely sitting area to eat it in, heated pool and hot tub, complimentary cheese and wine then milk and biscuits in the evening, complimentary beach cruisers and helmets and a guest laundry.

At the end of our trip this has been some touches of home and a very special place to stay a definite for our next trip...

Brisas Del Mar was a perfect choice for our stay in Santa Barbara. We initially stayed three nights one week, then returned for two more the next. Our King Suite was comfortable - essentially a cozy one bedroom apt.

The accommodations are second only to the staff. William, Lily, the front desk, maintenance, and house keepers wonderful and gracious they always greeted us with a ready smile and a willingness to assist if needed.

Great continental breakfast , wine and cheese in the evening, clean, convenient, and fantastic staff solidified Brisas Del Mar as my only choice for lodging in Santa Barbara.
