“Best hotel experience - start to finish”
Reviewed 31 August 2014

We stayed here for 2 nights in February 2014. We chose this place because it appeared to be within walking distance to the main parts of town (and it was). The property looked like an old motor inn, but it was actually very charming. We checked in and were taken to a dark room at the back of the hotel, which really felt like a cave. We decided to ask if anything else was available, and for $25 extra, we were moved to the top floor, which was MUCH brighter and airy (very much worth the extra $). The room itself was definitely dated, but spotless. We did get a free bottle of wine, which was great. Even in February, it was sunny and warm during the day, so we went swimming. The pool was small, but clean and beautiful with nice landscaping all around. There is free wi-fi, but it's kind of spotty at the back of the place. I brought my computer to the lobby when I needed to use it. The lobby itself was very cute! Comfy couches and a fireplace running all the time. I loved just hanging out there to read. Breakfast included a variety of fresh, delicious pastries, yogurts, fruit, cereal etc. I was not disappointed. In the afternoon, they offered drinks, cheese and crackers - perfect for a snack before dinner. In the evening, we were treated to a selection of fresh baked cookies and milk. I could not believe all the free food that was offered! We took advantage of the free bicycles the hotel had and cruised around town. The bikes were pretty rickety, but it's a great community with bike paths galore. All of these extra amenities were unexpected, but set this place apart from the rest. Unfortunately, on our first night, we had very young, noisy neighbors who had too much to drink, and were screaming and yelling at each other. The staff did an excellent job diffusing the situation and promptly made them leave, banning them from the property. The man at the front desk apologized profusely and said they have never had an experience like that before. I chalked it up to bad luck, and we enjoyed the rest of our stay there. Needless to say, I was absolutely shocked when I returned home and found that they had refunded my entire stay on my credit card! The customer service here is above and beyond - from the front desk, to the housekeepers to the maintenance staff. Everyone was so helpful and we couldn't have been treated better. Only suggestions would be to update the rooms, bicycles and wi-fi, but otherwise, don't change a thing. There is no doubt we will return.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the 3rd floor, even if it costs a little more. There are only 3 so choose early.

What a lucky find this was. A quite unique courtyard style property with lovely rooms ( just a little dark) and good facilities. The staff and service were exceptional from the time we arrived. Contrary to what an earlier reviewer said about being disappointed with breakfast, we weren't. In the 7 days of staying at various inns this was the best breakfast choice we had. I guess if you don't like cold and healthy then you would be disappointed but there is a good choice and an opportunity to sit outside.
This is a great location for walking to the seafront and harbour and even for walking State Street where all the shops are. If you are looking for a good restaurant within easy walking distance look no further than Toma down opposite the harbour ( see separate review ).

The Inn provides a suite of rooms with a full, well stocked kitchen. Everything is old fashioned and tired, but spotlessly clean and in working order. New TVs in both rooms. free wifi and a DVD library which kept the children happy.

The pool was the star attraction for my children as it was 8 foot deep at one end. Perfect for dive bombing boys but as the shallow end was 4 foot this may not be so good for younger children.

The Inn should win a prize for the most free food and drink it provides. From the lobby you can pick up a continental breakfast in the morning, wine and cheese late afternoon and cookies and milk before bed. Again the children loved this and everything was of a good quality and plentiful.

The Reception staff were very friendly and helpful.

Complimentary bikes are provided for guests use but unfortunately not for guests under 18 which was a shame,

The beach was 5 minutes walk away and State street about 15 minutes walk away.

I came here for 3 nights with a friend. We were immediately greeted with freshly baked cookies (delicious - may I add), and were given lots of information about the hotel and also the local area, in terms of restaurants, things to see, etc.

The staff were very friendly; the pool was a great sun trap too, with the rays lasting well into the evening. This was further improved by the addition of a glass of wine and a plate of cheese next to your sun lounger!

The place was very clean. There was also free parking, free rental bikes, and a huge array of free DVDs for any nights in. The only mild drawback (and it's very mild) was that the breakfast wasn't top notch. There wasn't any fresh fruit, and no hot breakfast.

I would THOROUGHLY recommend a stay here!

My sister and I arrived in Santa Barbara without having booked an accommodation for a weekend. We called Brisas del Mar and they had just had a cancellation. The staff were super friendly and welcoming, the room was beautiful, and a complimentary bottle of sparkling wine waited in our fridge. Every day, they host breakfast at reception with a small but good selection, a wine & cheese afternoon (with nuts & fruit), and freshly home-baked cookies with milk after that. It sounded like a dream come true. The staff were helpful when we asked for tips on wine tastings and hiking routes. They also have bikes you can borrow free of charge. They also have a small gym, hot tub, and pool. The hotel is 2 blocks away from the beach, incredibly charming, and we had an unforgettable weekend.

After spending a week in San Diego, we planned to head back up Route 66 & stop for a night in Santa Barbara. We arrived, with no plans & no clue of where we were going. We happened upon this little gem of a hotel en route to the beach (only 2 blocks away) myself, my husband & 3 kids (15, 12 & 7). We got a great deal on a suite. Very comfortable super king bed in the bedroom....wonderful ceiling fan just above the bed. No need for the a/c as the temp was perfect. Great kitchen with a bottle of bubbly chilling in the fridge. The kids slept on two comfy sofa beds in the lounge. They were in their element as outside on our private patio were sun loungers overlooking a pool & jacuzzi. There were hundreds of free DVDs to borrow from the reception. Freshly baked cookies in the afternoon & a great breakfast with wonderfully fresh pastries in the morning. We used the complimentary bikes to explore the beautiful area & the use of the pool towels at the beach was a bonus. The hotel staff especially Pam couldn't have been more helpful...we would be delighted to come back some day on a return trip... This time I'd stay for much longer though!

Room Tip: We stayed in suite number 7... Great location over looking the pool & close to reception.

This was our second time at Brisas Del Mar, after staying in a suite last year and being really happy with it we booked a suite once again. Upon arrival we were told that we had been upgraded to a penthouse, it was HUGE! The hotel offers free parking, wifi, breakfast, cheese and wine on an afternoon and cookies and milk on an evening as well as free DVD hire - there's a vast collection to choose from.
The staff are all very friendly (but not overbearing) and can't do enough to help. The hotel also offers a free hire of bikes and there is a laundry room (€1 each for the washer and drier). The pool is modest and there is also a spa tub. Beach towels are provided. It's only a short walk to the harbour and around a 20 minute walk to the centre of town.
All in all, despite the decor being a little outdated, this really is a lovely, friendly, homely hotel and we would love to stay again!

Room Tip: Suites are quite a size!
