We didn't want a hotel right off the pier or State street. It was easy to find and easy to get onto Hwy 1 / Hwy 101 just continuing on Castillo St.. Particulary efficient since we did an ER run in the middle of the night and got to the hospital in about 8 min. Staff was friendly and helpful. Did not have microwaves at the breakfast area so we used our room microwave. The waffles are the greatest!!! You also need to LOVE tourquoise & brown as the entire decor is this color. Although Castillo is not noisy state street, the road is still a main street with traffic noise. There was a balcony with 2 chairs and a table. Rates are higher on the weekends.

Room Tip: choose a room NOT facing Castillo. We liked the ones in the hallway.

After reading the other reviews I was hesitant to to stay there. Avania Inn is has nice clean rooms and is ACTUALLY in walking distance to State Street and the beach. The hotel manager is actually pretty cool. She did her best to fulfill all of our requests, even the unreasonable ones. As far as the noise is concerned I didn't hear anything when my window was closed. I plan on staying here again. You should too.

Location excellent, 5mins to beach and 10 to town. Hotel redone recently, although the colour scheme of brown and blue is a little unsettling. Breakfast is average for a motel type establishment, but the bright and open room in which it's offered compensates. The room we had (201) had its own balcony, overlooking the small pool. The beds were comfortable, although the duvets were on the heavy side. The receptionist was brisk on arrival, but, when engaged in conversation, was more than happy to chat. The staff we saw were smily and polite. The room was very quiet, with no street noise. We were there in the week before Presidents Day and paid $139, which was a little excessive, we went back the following week and the room was $20 cheaper. Then again, Santa Barbara is an expensive town.
The reviews I read before my stay struck me as being churlish, overly critical, and somewhat mean spirited. It is a good place to stay.

Room Tip: The room at the back overlooking the pool (201), also has it's own balcony

Clean room and bathroon, obviously recently renovated, but quite a noisy location between two busy streets. The less than friendly receptionist only reluctantly moved us upon our request for a quieter room to the second floor, even though plenty of rooms were still available. Ratty polyester bedcover under the duvet. Alright for a one-night-stop but no more.

Not what we imagined from the pictures and reviews we read. Wasn't expecting anything spectacular but wasn't that great. Beds were not comfortable at all, which is my biggest thing. Location was awesome. It was just eh. Not bad for a 1 night stay. Breakfast was included though, which is a plus, and you don't have to pay for parking.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for NYE and had a great time. We were within walking distance of a great restaurant called the Brewhouse and the harbor. If you go there you must try their enchiladas! The breakfast in the morning was ok, with the waffles being the highlight of the meal. Samantha at the front desk was a pleasure to deal with and got us in a room with a private balcony. If you want to be closer to the beach than State St, this is your place to stay.

We stopped off here for a night as part of a road trip going down the coast. It is in a line of hotels of similar quality. Given how far it was from the beach front and downtown I thought it was a bit pricey but it was on a par with any of the other hotels we priced and quite a bit cheaper than the holiday inn beside it.

Location wise you are about a 20 minute walk from downtown. The rooms were as expected. I was happy enough with the cleanliness and space in it. I did find it a bit loud however. I woke up a couple of times with people outside making noise out the way home from a night out as the room was quite close to a main road. Breakfast was a bit better than expected. Overall nothing to complain about but still thought it was a bit pricey for what it was.
