“What a GREAT place for a vacation”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 June 2014

Just spent several days in this hotel and I couldn't be happier! The staff from the front desk to the bellman were exceptional. PJ the bartender was exceptional! I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Very nice property, across the street from the beach. Helpful front desk and front door staff. Fantastic cookies. Clean, warm pool, attentive pool staff. But the parade of staff pushing service carts loudly across the pavers was disruptive to conversation - another "customer experience" detail Fess could fix by asking staff to "take their noisy carts around instead of through" areas where guests are sitting. Bike Rental / Surreys were easy to rent and lots of fun. Rooms were nice, but not particularly special. Noise from people yelling in the hallway woke us up several times. Extremely loud people upstairs and next door were a problem - nonexistent noise barriers, thin walls / floors. "Security" responded promptly to the kids upstairs jumping off the bed above us, being overseen by an older sibling. Literally thought they would come through the ceiling. Temperature control didn't work well (room got stuffy at night), automatic toilet flusher in the men's room near the pool didn't work at all - ew. "Hospitality" host was not helpful in providing the dining area our group had been promised well in advance of our arrival. When we were directed to a different, wind-exposed area, Meghan and was visibly irritated at the request to have our 30+ group dinner set up in the area we had arranged. Was gruff about informing us that tables would not be moved, and generally set the evening off poorly with her attitude and lack of hospitality. Fortunately the 2 servers did a great job and redeemed the evening. Food was very good. Overall - Nice location, but for the price, Fess Parker Doubletree did not have the extra touches and attention to detail expected. Very Good, but could be great with some attention to detail and attention to customer experience.

Room Tip: Get top floor unless you like hearing people walking above you while trying to sleep.

This hotel/resort was nice, but not great. The rooms were a good size and very comfortable. The pool and work our facilities were very nice and enjoyable. The hotel is also close to the beach and within walking distance of a major pier and several restaurants.

On the negative side, the hotel area is large, so chances are you will walking a bit to get to your room, especially if you use valet parking (probably the biggest down side of the valet). Regardless of whether you use valet or park yourself, you're going to be paying a decent amount for parking. As far as restaurant on the premises, I was not impressed. The food was okay, but the service was awful.

Overall, it was an enjoyable stay and I'll likely stay there again, but I will not eat there and I will not use valet parking.

Room Tip: Room have balconies, so request an upstairs room. If you reserve early, request an ocean-view or mo...

Stayed at the Fess Parker for a 3 day conference this past weekend. Grounds were well kept, public spaces were very clean, front desk personnel were very helpful, "business center" was a bit sparse (lots of folks wanting to confirm flights, check messages etc., and pool was well kept up and clean. Temps were very comfortable in all the public spaces, and each room had a control for heating and air. All in all 4 stars, primarily because even with a discounted conference rate, $300 per night was a bit much since we were gone more than we were there.
Clock radio did not work, especially the alarm. Maid could not get it to work either. TV was a good clear picture and being on a swivel it allowed me to get a good view from anywhere in the room. Nice set up in the bath rooms; double sink arrangement and the water was nice and hot!
Buffet breakfast was expensive in my opinion (about $25), especially when the French toast//pancakes were cold even in the pans. (No one checking the heat source?) Would have been nice to have a local phone book in the room also. But, overall it was a nice stay, even though it "cost me" more than I expected in the end.

Room Tip: I stayed in the Dahlia Building which was far enough away from the Amtrak rails that I did not hear...

We loved this hotel. Rooms nice and comfortable. Pool is very nice and clean. Friendly staff and the best thing is that it's on walking distance to the beach and pier. Nice restaurants in the area and a short drive to stores. We will definitely be returning to this hotel.

Well attended, good deco. Valet parking was efficient although can be reduced in rate. Bar experience was good. Seems too spread-out a bit. Can add more art or activity to fill the place with more life.

I stayed at the Fess Parker for a 3 day conference. Its location and staff are amazing - very near the Pacific and everyone I met was pleasant and helpful. Then you go to your room.

A cheap radio that didn't get any reception, no channel guide, so one has to go through every channel to get to a program he/she wants to see, and the thinnest ceilings that made every football in the room above me sound like a basketball game was being played over my head. Additionally, when I was checking out, I found clothes from a previous guest in a drawer - clearly housekeeping had never checked them between guests.

It was disappointing to read your comments about the noise you experienced and the items left in the dresser drawer. We apologize and understand how frustrating this must have been for you. We appreciate your comment about the TV channel guide and our team is already working on creating this for our guests. Thank you for taking the time to report on your recent visit and giving us the opportunity to correct these issues. We hope you will consider returning to give us another chance to serve you.
