Nice hotel, a little pricey but if you are a AAA member it is somewhat bearable, got a free upgrade, beautiful room. Still too expensive for my tastes but we did enjoy our time there. Property is well cared for and the help was very nice.

Room Tip: Main hotel is better than the rest of the property, we had a room on the side with a balconey so we...

We stayed here for a night while passing through Santa Barbara en route to Santa Cruz. As other reviewers have said, this is a great hotel with superb facilities, right on the beach. However, it is their service in face of a crisis that I am going to remember them for.

In the morning, after checking out and loading up our hire car, I locked myself out - I left the key in the trunk and closed it. Calling up Avis proved no good: they sent a tow car that forced a door open - however that set off the burglar alarm and deactivated the button that opens the trunk. The car did not have a foldback rear seat, so I ( and wife and 2yr old kid) were still locked out. Their next best suggestion was to offer a tow back to LA the next day so that a maintenance team could get into the trunk!

When I explained my predicament to the manager at the reception, Andrew Bergstrom, he took the initiative to bring along a torch and a coat hanger. He got into the car and through a tiny gap between the top of the seat and the trunk (it was a convertible with its roof down at the time) managed to snag the key and pull it out. He didn't have to do this - this was far beyond any service I expected the hotel to provide. He also refused to accept a tip as a measure of our gratitude. Just came, applied himself, solved the problem and went away - awesome!

I shoud add that Andrew was not an outlier. All the other staff I dealt with over the course of the morning - the situation took a good few hours to work out - were very supportive and willing to help, despite us having already checked out.

All in all a huge THANK YOU to Andrew and the rest of the team at hotel for rescuing our holiday and being so customer friendly. Everybody about customer service as a value - I can confirm that these guys live it. I would love to return to the hotel another time. In the meantime, can't recommend them enough.

My husband and I booked this lovely hotel to celebrate our wedding anniversary and were THRILLED with our experience here. We stayed for two nights and requested an ocean view room. Not only was the room spacious and well-appointed, but the staff took note of our celebration and surprised us with a bottle of champagne waiting in our room when we checked in. This normally more than we would spend on accommodations, but it was WELL worth it! We will be back!

Room Tip: Third floor rooms afford the nicest views of the ocean.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for three nights and I just wished it had been longer, what an absolute treat!. We passed through Santa Barbara about five years ago and having seen this hotel decided that should we come again we would stay here, and I am so thrilled we did. We arrived by train and walked to the hotel it being a mere 2-3 minutes from the station, and we were stunned how beautiful the hotel is, from first walking in we were blown away how good it is. We booked a sea view room, a little bit more expensive, but my word was it worth it! We could sit on the balcony and watch the world go by with the stunning views,or we had a short stroll to the right to the marina, or ahead to the pier, or left down the promenade or behind us we had State Street with all the bars and shops, it is a truly stunning hotel in a superb location. Would we go back? in a flash we would

Room Tip: Pay that little bit more for a sea view

We booked 1 night on our california round trip, and i must say this was one of the best "value for money" hotels. We took an upgrade to a room in the newer north wing and were surprised to find a spacious room with a big bathroom and with a very cosy design. Everything is in walking distance, staff is very friendly and professional.

As i like to smoke a little cigar after dinner, the only negative point is that you can not smoke outiside on the hotel terrain or on your balcony outside. They warn you for fines , so you have to go on the pavement and feel yourself like a junk.

Prime location across the beach! We were offered an upgrade to an oceanfront view room for only $10 more, sadly once we got into our room we noticed a foul stench coming through the vents. We quickly asked to be relocated to another room and fortunately they had another upper level room minus the view, but no smell. The staff was so understanding and accommodating, they even took us to tour the 3 remaining rooms available so that we can choose which one to stay in. To top it off, they offered to send up a bottle of champagne which we kindly declined. Shows that they truly do value their guests.

Had a lovely stay there and would do it again.

My wife & I recently stayed here for 3 days & wished we had booked in for a much longer stay because it is a wonderful hotel. I emailed them after we had booked & asked if we could have a sea view room & when we arrived we were given a room that looked out over the pool to the beach with views of Stearns Wharf to the left & the harbour pier to the right. The room was big with a lovely bed & a great bathroom ( with bathrobes, but slippers would have been an added bonus ). All of the staff were really pleasant & we had a couple of really nice meals in the restaurant. It was idealy situated for the beach & the piers & being right on State Street was handy for the bars up there. An Irish bar called Dargans, just past Cota Street is a real lively place. As I say we wished we had stayed longer but who knows, maybe next time !!

Room Tip: Contact them before you go & ask for what you want.
