“Good location, nice place”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 October 2013

This hotel is located just minutes away from the pier and access to Santa Barbara is easy, on foot, 15 minutes to the main shopping street. We choose a room overlooking the beach, was very big and comfy. Hotel's staff is very good. There was no elevator to get to our room, can be an issue when you have to carry suitcases up and down the very narrow and steep stairs. Would recommend the place when in Santa Barbara, pricewise absolutely ok.

We had a nice room overlooking the harbour. Good location, great to wander.
There isn't a wow factor with this hotel though, it was fine rather than amazing.
Expected more in the way of service for the price though.

Given the $300+ price, I was expecting more. But for Santa Barbara you can spend more. We had stayed here once before and I had better memories then. Previously we had stayed in the newer building separate from the lobby on State St., which I recall as being nicer. Ask for the newer building if you don't mind being away from the lobby. Our room on the second floor in the main building not far from the lobby was spacious and reasonably well kept. Only issue I saw was that the throws on the bed were either not clean or clean but stained. Bed comfort was average and room noise was somewhat high as we could hear people walking overhead (we were on 2nd floor) and we could hear people talking in the next room. Advice-ask for a top floor room to eliminate overhead walking noise. Bathrooms could use updating as there was only a tub with shower curtain. We also asked for a "roll-away" bed. All they have is an air mattress for $15 that is uncomfortable and quite noisy with the vinyl squeaking. Advice-get a room with sufficient permanent beds or avoid if you need an extra bed beyond what is in the room. Not sure if our friends will review this place, but we were travelling with another family who got in late at night and they were given a key to a room that was occupied. They entered the room and fortunately/unfortunately? the occupants were sleeping and unaware someone had entered their room. I see from another recent review this is not the first time this has happened. Advice - make sure your room is locked and latched when you're in it. As far as the staff goes, they were very nice, helpful and had a good attitude.

Room Tip: Ask for the newer building if you don't mind being away from the lobby.

I want to Thank-you for taking the time to let us know about your stay. Our property has been built at over a 20 year period. Some rooms are newer then others, we have upgraded our older rooms to have the same finishes and amenities. We do have about 25 rooms that only have tub/shower combos all the other 90 rooms have separate tubs and showers. We are working on additional upgrades this winter. Our roll a ways are the aero beds that we have used and have had less complaint than the metal roll a ways I am sorry that it did not provide a good night sleep for you.
I am happy that you did come stay with us again and hope you will come back when you travel to Santa Barbara next time. Thank-you again for write your review it is always helpful to know how to improve our property.

This hotel is wonderful. We stayed one night and could have stayed longer. The staff were very friendly. When we arrived our GPS system had failed and Sam made a phone call to the rental company to fix the problem for us. The staff at check in were lovely too.The rooms are so comfortable and relaxing and the beds are amazing. Its everything you would want in a hotel and more.

The hotel is conveniently located adjacent to the harbor front as well as the train station. For the amount charged, I was expecting a nicer room. One with a view would have been even more expensive. I'd say the quality is comparable to a good Best Western. It was clean and comfortable. So they charge what the market will bear. What I didn't like is that they charged my credit card $50/day for incidentals ahead of time--even though I didn't incur any during our stay. When I checked out, I was told that the outstanding balance would charged to my credit card. But I checked my credit card charges online, I found that they had already charged that and $100 more for potential incidentals. When I called to enquire about the excess, they said it was their normal procedure and that the $100 for potential incidentals would be credited in a few day--taking up to a week. I travel quite often, and have never come across this practice before in hotels or rental cars where additional charges might be incurred. It's misleading and confusing. What's more, it was never explained as such until I questioned the charges after the fact.

Location, location, location It's got it all. Right on the shore, close to the office and great restaurants. Big well fitted rooms. Bath and shower. Breakfast in the restaurant was superb. My room had a sea view and I had coffee on the balcony and watched the sub come up. Yes jet lag has its advantages

We stayed two nights in July with two rooms overlooking the pool and across the beach to the ocean. We had adjacent rooms, which we had requested, so that our teenagers were next door to us. From arrival all the way through our stay the front desk were incredibly pleasant and helpful giving us some good advice and assistance with making bookings and suggesting what to see and do during our short stay in Santa Barbara. We had a hire car and there was plentiful parking in the grounds of the hotel with much of it shaded which was helpful. Our rooms were good sized and the Molton Brown products in the large bathrooms were a nice touch. The pool, whilst not huge, has good space around it so you can relax either close to the water or in a quieter spot further away. The pool bar shuts slightly early at 5pm but otherwise we had no issues with anything and would happily stop off here again if we are in Santa Barbara.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the pool and facing the ocean are worth paying the extra for
