We stayed here for 1 night on a Californian road trip. It was very easy to find and is in a great location near the beach. The owner was very friendly ( sorry we forgot his name but it was a long trip and this was our first night ) and immediately gave us a map of the area and pointed out points of interest and recommended somewhere good for lunch ( Brophy Bros. Clam bar ). The room was a very good size with a large comfortable bed, sofa, large tv, fridge, free wifi and a superior bathroom. Parking was available right outside the room. It is a 2 minute walk to the harbour, 15 minutes to State Street where most of the restaurants and bars are. The rates were competitive considering it was a Friday night. I would highly recommend staying here.

We stayed at this Inn for only one night last week and we wish we could have stayed longer. We didn't get there until almost 8p and the innkeeper warmly welcomed us and was really nice. He gave us a local area map and pointed out all the local hot spots and good eateries for us. Our room was very spacious, exceptionally clean and the furnishings were beautiful. The level of detail down to the bathroom fixtures shows the property owner actually cares about you feeling like you are styaing in luxury. The rooms were very quiet, even though we backed to a side street. Bed was comfy and that says alot since we are used to a Tempur Pedic at home. There is a fridge next to a full size couch that was perfect for lounging out for a bit.
It's about a 7 min walk to the wharf where there are a few cute little shops and restaurants and a 15 min walk to the busy section of State street and all the great shopping. Some of the stores feature fairly expensive and really expensive goods but there are also a few cute little boutiques and a few regular retailers like Macys and Old navy. During the day I'd suggest moving the car a little closer since the public parking is really inexpensive. The first two hours are free and we stayed for 4.5 hours and it only cost $2!
Overall, this Inn gets two thumbs up and I would recommend to anyone and everyone. It was a wonderful stay! Thank you!

We stayed here for one night on our way from Carmel to Los Angeles. The room was quite large, clean and had obviously been updated, very tastefully.

We weren't here for long and had a good nights sleep. In the morning, a five minute walk to Sambo's had us a great breakfast.

One of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept on. Room was fine, pretty much as described on website, fridge, free wifi was fast. We walked to State St main area and back (about 20 mins each way), but there's a Trolley for 50c if you need it. Great value for money.

This is a very nice, very updated, very clean old style motel in a great location. The rooms are in excellent condition, The bathroom is all updated with granite counters, Kohler bathtub, with a nice shower head. There is no pool or restaurant but you can't beat the price and the place is spotless and very well maintained.

And it might be the only one, based on my pre-vacation searches for a hotel that wouldn't break the bank. It is a motor lodge and there aren't any great views from the rooms, but the rooms are newly renovated and comfortable with large fridges and coffee makers, and you're easy walking distance from nearly anything you would want to do in town. What surprised me was that the management was so friendly and helpful. We got a great orientation upon check in and during the office hours there was always someone willing to help you out with anything you needed.

The street on which the inn is located is kind of a motel row, and for the duration of our stay, the Castillo Inn was the only lodging with the "no vacancy" sign lit up the entire time. I took that as a good sign that we had chosen our accommodation wisely. The only negative thing I could say is that there was a really unfortunate view of the hideous Best Western hotel next door out of our back window. If the view was better, though, I'm sure the room would go for 2-3 times the current rate, so I was more than willing to tolerate the less than scenic view to be able to afford to stay so close to the beach--who needs a nice view from the room when you can walk 1/2 a block and be on the beach?
