We spent almost one day online researching hotels we do not like to pay a lot, but like to stay in a nice clean hotels. We finally decided to pick "Castillo Inn" we arrived and our reservation was booked and room ready as promissed. Greeted nicelly by Tyler the front desk receptionist was provided with information on shoping and places that are near food, entertainment. Once we walked in to our room the can lights, shutters, ground counter tops in the bathrooms where excellent. The room was not large but was plenty for me and my wife. Steps away from the beach and marina where you can go on the boat ride. Very clean, no view. The place felt nice, clean and safe, if you come back from dinner late you might not be parking right in front of your room, the furthest parking aprox 4-6 parkings away from your room not to bad. Me and my wife loved it. Would recomend to anyone that would like to stay near the beach and does not want to pay $389 per day about 1/2 block away with a ocean view. with aaa we payed $129 per night. That is all.

We cancelled our reservation in large part because of the rude and condescending attitude of "Tyler" the front desk personnel who answered the telephone both times we called to discuss our reservation. Customer service and professionalism are of paramount importance - especially in the very competitve world of the hospitality industry. I think that common courtesy would be better served than a snotty attitude. The property may be nice - I don't know and I don't care - if you can't even be treated politely before you arrive, there are much better accommodations/environments down the street. Don't allow yourself to be treated this way. Stay somewhere else!!!

This is an awesome little romantic place. The rooms are beautiful and quiet......bathroom is to die for and beds are so comfy. You can walk to the beach and stroll along the water. We will definately go back to Castillo Inn. It looks small and quaint from the outside but the luxury is inside. Tyler was very friendly and made our stay wonderful with dinner /activity suggestions and a room preview before we registered just to make sure we would be happy.

The Castillo Inn in Santa Barbara is a very nice hotel. There are only about 20 rooms so it is not very big. We had just happened upon the Castillo Inn while driving thru Santa Barbara. We got a rate of $235 a night on a Saturday Night which is a little high for us, but you will find that most all of the nice hotels close to the beach in Santa Barbara are this way. The room was very nice. It had two queen beds with very comfortable bedding. The windows had wood shutters. There was a Plasma TV and a DVD player. A desk, an Armoire,a dresser, a chair and Refridgerator. Recessed lighting was a nice touch. There was a very large bathroom with Granite countertops and a granite Shower and tile floors. Our room had a patio with a table and chairs, but we were not at the hotel long enough to use it. And having young kids we didn't like that the patio was right along side the street with no gate seperating it from the sidewalk and street. There are however some small shrubs that make somewhat of a barrier so it wouldn't be a problem for most people. Our room was facing the park across the street. There are a lot of homeless people that stay at the park so that is noticable when you look out the window, but it is not that big of a deal. There is no pool so if you are looking for a hotel with a pool then this is not the place for you, but if you are looking for a nice quite, cozy, comfortable place to stay with nicely decorated rooms and pretty grounds then this is definitly the place for you.

Didn't even stay at hotel. Called hotel twice in same day. First time to ask front desk clerk (Tyler, says he lives at hotel & claims to be general manager) what was available 4th of July weekend. Clerk answered phone saying "front desk" & sounded totally irritated that he even had to answer a phone call. He abruptly told me that "a king is available". When I asked questions about the rm, he sighed like he was annoyed that I asked so many questions.
Called back a second time (hoping not to get the same clerk again) to ask questions about rms for Labor Day weekend which were available online. Got the same rude clerk. Had to ask every little thing about each rm. He wasn't gonna voluntarily take the time to describe each rm. Would've been too much work to do that for a potential guest!!! Finally asked if there was a patio on ea rm w/view to the beach/ocean. He said hotel was blocked totally by another hotel in front of it & there was no view to the beach/ocean. I said, "oh, that's not too good". He said "oh well" & sounded like he was preparing to hang up on me. I asked to speak w/the manager & owner. After sometime, he gave me the owners name but no phone number or addr as a contact. Hope the owner reads comments on this site. You're going to lose more customers if Tyler keeps answering the phone! Put him on kp/housekeeping duty instead of front desk.

We stumbled into the Castillo Inn while arriving in S. Barbara, and liked the spanish style straight away. Our room was really nice, spacious and confortable with a big bed and we even had WI FI and a parking place 10 yards from our room !
My wife liked it so much that we stayed an extra night and relaxed at the beach . There was free coffee , juice and danish at the reception in the morning which was a nice touch.
I can recomend it to everyone who wants to stay close to the beach in a quiet area.

My husband and I were looking for a place to stay overnight. We just happened upon this nicely decorated motel and decided to see if there were any vacancies. The clerk was friendly and nice and we booked our room. Since it was a weekend, the AAA rate was unavailable. Something which is the norm for California I guess. The grounds were very nicely kept. The room was nice enough with HBO and big screen TV. Internet access, comfortable bed, quiet . Big bathroom which looked like it had been newly tiled and granite shower. Very convenient to the wharf, restaurants and marina. We were very happy we stumbled upon this.
