I found this place on tripadvisor and I am glad I did. I booked the stay back in April of 2013 to celebrate my girlfriend and I's 2yr anniversary. Upon pulling up to the place, I wasn't expecting much. It was cool, clean, but nothing spectacular. When we checked in, Dan, who is the main man at the Castillo Inn, greeted us and was very nice. We went to our room and it was great, very clean, well decorated, and spacious. When we got hungry, Dan made great recommendations for dinner and we went with a place that was within walking distance. Oyster shooters were awesome!! Dan also let us know about breakfast spots... He went 2 for 2. I ultimately proposed to my girlfriend on this trip and she is now my fiance. Looking for the bad parts of the trip and Castillo Inn isn't one of them. This place exceeded my expectations by far. I would definitely stay again.

The Castillo Inn is a cute little motel in a great location one half block to the beach and right across from Pershing Park. There are eight city tennis courts in the park.

It's best to call for reservations. When I tried to book on-line, no rooms were available. When I called, there was a vacancy.

Highly recommended if you are visiting Santa Barbara. The hotel is located just one property off Cabrillo Blvd, close to the marina and wharf, and the south end of State Street. There are numerous restaurants within walking distance. They really know how to take care of the customer here, Dan was great. They have a small but high quality complimentary continental breakfast in the lobby.
The room was very comfortable, we stayed two nights. I would definitely stay here again and recommend that you do as well.
The only gripes I have, if you can call it that, is that the patio for our room was basically useless. It is on the south side of the building, and so is in the hot sun most of the day. Also, the room's A/C condenser is out there, and is very noisy. Also, the lighting in the room could use improvement. If one partner wants to lay in bed and the other one wants to sit and read, there is one switch that turns all the lights on in the room. The only way to read when your partner is asleep is to hunch over the desk and use the small lamp there. There should be multiple switches to break the overhead lighting up into zones.
But overall, we had a very enjoyable stay.

We were so pleased when we arrived at the Castillo Inn. The reviews on trip advisor were accurate, this is a great, small, clean, hotel steps from the beach. Amazing location, a few blocks to Stearns Wharf, and an easy walk to State St. (the main drag). Our room was clean, updated, and tastefully decorated, probably the most comfortable king size bed ever, with a cute private balcony/terrace. Complementary continental breakfast, free wifi, easy parking. We will be back!

Room Tip: we stayed in room 30, corner room. Perfect!

After consulting Trip Advisor we decided to stay here. We are so glad we did. The Inn is very charming and the owner (Danny?) was very helpful. He gaves us great tips on where to go and what to see. The location is excellent. We walked everywhere but the access to/from the freeway was also super easy. We were really glad we didn't stay in the State Street area although we did spend most of the day there. The King bed was super comfortable. Our (very clean) room was on the second floor and had a really nice, private balcony. There was plenty of space and the bathroom was very nicely done. We were sitting on the balcony late one night and saw a couple pull in to the lobby area. The woman got out, went into the lobby and came out again a short while later. They consulted their iPad and then drove off. I wish I could have told her to give the Inn a chance, that she wouldn't have been disappointed. We will definitely stay here again if we get the opportunity.

My husband and I (from the east coast) stayed at the Castillo Inn one night in September and it was way more than expected! The room was spacious, well appointed, immaculate and very reasonably priced! The bathroom was also immaculate and everythting looked brand new!! We especially loved the location...just a short walk to the marina or about a 15-20 minute pleasant stroll downtown. Dan, the innkeeper, was very personable and very helpful providing us with information about the area. Would have loved to have stayed longer. Andrea

My husband & I recently stayed here for 1 night on our way travelling from LA to San Francisco and we thought this place was a gem in the beautiful town of Santa Barbara.

Situated just off of the main beach road, this classically and tastefully decorated motel style hotel offered everything we needed for our stay. We had a room directly above the guest reception which was very big...it had a king sized bed, tv, fridge, big bathroom, lounge area and a balcony too. We were very pleasantly surprised with the quality of the decor which was so classically done, fitting in perfect with this simply stunning seaside town. The room was spotlessly clean with free wifi, which is an essential these days.

Free continental breakfast is available in reception which you just help yourself too. Fresh pastries individually wrapped with fruit, juices and coffee too. There is no where to eat it in reception so we walked the 2 mins to the beach and eat it there.

Main shopping street a 15 min stroll away, and pier about 10 min walk where there are many dining options. There is also the harbour only 10 mins stroll which is where we eat that night. (didn't actually know about the harbour but found it on my afternoon run along the beach boardwalk)

Overall a wonderful stay in a beautiful town. Would definitely recommend the Castillo Inn to others visiting Santa Barbara. Very nice owner/manager who checked us out who was very focused on ensuring his guests had the best possible stay.
