Historic Mission Santa Clara de Asis. Instituted in 1777, it is the eighth oldest of the original 21 California missions. We visited it and it is a beautiful mission. The mission is located on the Santa Clara University, a Jesuit school. It is used for student services, but mass and other church events are also open to the public.

“A beautiful California Mission”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

Definitely a church that you would want to see if you are visiting the California Mission s or Santa Clara. This mission church has been a favorite of mine since I had grown up in Santa Clara. Since it sits on the Santa Clara university campus the outdoor gardens are beautiful too,

Santa Clara mission is unique. It's on the grounds of Santa Clara University, is one of the few named for a woman, the church is in its 7th iteration (moved several times and burned down in the 1920s) and is a peaceful place in the middle of the hustle-and-bustle of the heat of the tech universe.

Martín and I visited on a Thursday and there were few people there. We had it to ourselves and enjoyed the peacefulness as we enjoyed the shrines and altars there.

One of the other neat things here is that it contains a relic of Father Serra, one of the very few we've discovered on our Missions tour.

“Mission Santa Clara”

Although it is built on the site of the original mission, there is little to evoke the mission days. Reconstructed to accommodate a larger audience, it is really just another nice college church. The Santa Clara campus is lovely.

“Santa Clara University Campus and mission”

This is a beautiful campus and a great walk I've always enjoyed. The mission church is a special trip back in history in the middle of the campus.
